Who controls the health care system?

Sadly, it's the insuance companies. That's one of my pet peeves. It should be the doctors, but there hands are tied because insurance companies won't pay unless it's done their way!

The health care system is definitely controlled by the insurance companies, but Doctors have the power to overturn that. If Doctors (such as the ones I work with) weren't so concerned about the $$$$, and would invest more quality in the care they provide, then health care wouldn't be an insurance issue. Probably some (I know not all) medical problems could be better treated the first time around. That avoid further hospitalizations, referrals, etc....which would lower insurance billing and costs. Some Doctors, unfortunately, look at insurance coverage versus patient progress when they evaluate patient treatment and discharge planning.

The insurance companies, definitely. The doctors can't do anything anymore without contacting the insurance companies.
