Hi, all. I am going to have surgery in a few days and will have to leave my two dogs and the oldest one will pout and maybe not even eat while I am in the hospital.
The youngest one gets in my trash when I am gone.
I know they are both experiencing separation anxiety.
What can I do to make it better?

I hope your surgery will go well, and I wish you a speedy recovery. This way you'll be back with your girls soon.
If any of your family members come home every day to feed the dogs, maybe he can bring them a used piece of cloth from you, so they'll know they're not abandoned.
You should throw away the trash before you leave, and you have to make sure they have nothing to hurt themselves with. If you'll be away for a long time, check the fence to see if there aren't any holes, because the dogs could try to escape in order to find their masters.
Don't worry about the food they eat, I'm sure they won't starve.
I hope you'll come back with good news soon.

These are all great ideas! I have had to leave the oldest dog before and she did pout and wouldn't eat but finally she had to.......now I have this young dog and she's not as attached to me yet but she does follow me these last few days along with the older dog so they know something is up.
I will remember the trash! thank you for that reminding me of that.
I know the fence is good and you are right, they might try the old gate that isn't very good so I will check that too.
They will be fed and they are both fatter than toads so they will be fine. The family will feed them .
I think I'm more concerned about me and my anxiety separation than the dogs ............I do so worry bout them.
I will start a new discussion about my surgery when I get home to let everyone know I am ok and made it thru ok.
Thanks for the advice and God bless.

Hello quita88,
I know all will be fine, and wishing you a speedy recovery time and healing.
Maybe you could have a loved one stop by frequently. Or, you could video
tape a message for your dogs and play. Like sit or hi baby..lol.
Please do not worry that adds stress. Your dogs will be fine, as long
as someone stops in and checks on them. Let us know what how they
did, after you heal. :)

Hi there, I think I have worried for nothing. My neighbor boy has been coming over and walking these dogs and they are doing fine.
I will call home while in the hospital and try to talk to the dogs over the phone:)
I think they will be fine.......it's me that is a problem :)
Thanks for the interest and concern tho..
hugs, quita

HI Lakota. I have been talking to them. They know I'm gonna be gone too. They are both following me around from room to room and watching everything I do. Galeena likes to ride in the car and I've been taking her if I can.
You know how much these dogs mean to me and I will try to talk to them on the phone:)
I know they know and I am taking every precaution I can.
These members are being really great about ideas.
As you know I'll be gone next Friday and will not be back for about a week.
Thanks for the info and I will be talking to you.
hugsssssssss

hi quita good luck and God bless on your surgery. I am thinking maybe
your son come take a few minutes each day to love them up a bit
so they will not miss you quite so much. I know they both want to
be there with you but it would not take that long sureley then
they will see a familiar face and that should really help. Thats
the only suggestion I can think of. Do you have any videos with
your voice on it that your neigbors could play for them occasionally
as that might help too.I send my prayers for your surgery and your
wonderful dogs too.God Bless.
