What's your strategy in renting, recycling and extending referrals?

I have been very active in many PTC sites lately and I have gone all over the net to check on people's strategies in making sure their rented referrals are earning for them. I found many are employing almost identical strategies and yet many still rant about this or that strategy not working for them. I myself have to update my own strategies because of that, not to mention the fact I am fully aware of the very unpredictable clicking behavior of rented referrals. I have a good clickers for instance (clickers AVGing between 2.0 and 4.0) that would suddenly stop clicking for 4 days and longer. At first I followed the strategy I learned from other successful and much older PTC users of usually recycling these kind of referrals only after 4 days of inactivity, but the thing is the replacement are not acting any better. Some are even worse than the ones I replaced. So I experimented allowing some to be inactive for more than 4 days, and I found out that some go back to their usual routines of being good clickers. Some of course became laggards and scanty. Others acted like binge drinkers clicking like crazy for a few days and then suddenly stop out of the blue. This process get's repeated over and over again that I sometimes get lost in monitoring their clicking pattern.
How about you? What's your personal experience with rented referrals? Do you recycle them often? What kind of strategy do you employ to maintain your income and minimize your loses?
