You mean "How much?" not "How many?". "Much" refers to the amount with regards to what you said it means the cost of the item and "many" means the quantity of items. Sorry if I correct you on how to use the right words. I hope you didn't get offended. I actually experienced that many times here in China. Especially if I go inside a boutique and found an item that I like then when I asked a saleslady how much the item cost and tells me an expensive price then I haggle. Sometimes they give in especially if I'm buying it at Huaqiangbei or Dongmen but if it's from an exclusive store with fix price I cannot do it so what I do is I'll try to save the money for it. But if I went to stores in Huaqiangbei or Dongmen where you can haggle and the saleslady will not give me a discounted price then I usually leave the store. I also remind myself never to come back to that store again. Why would I patronize their store if they will never give me a good price? Especially if I'm going to buy many items.

This salesgirl is so rude. No matter what, the customer is God. I wonder whether you bought it from the department store. If so, I am afraid that this salesgirl is not qualified to work there. Here usually the salesperson will be nice. We can't bargain in a department store, but it is OK to ask whether there is a discount or gift. If you buy products from a personal store, usually you can try to bargain there. Even if the price is not alright, most of the sellers won't give you a bad attitude. And sometimes if it seems the deal is failed and you are about to leave, then the seller will ask you to come back and accept to your price:) I love China

Many times when you go into buy something somewhere the Customer service presented from someone there makes you wonder why they are there trying to help people and why someone in upper management tends to continue to allow this? I can see if you catch them on a Bad day but personally when they are there helping you try on shoes or something they should want to be supportive of you and try to help make a sale instead of being negative. Don't let it bother you. Move on, and go find something you are interested in elsewhere.

i understand what you mean. but if i know the place where i am like a mall, i avoid bargaining like what you did. because probably the salesperson will just answer you, there is no such thing in that place. go out in the street or local market and you can find bargain stuffs. anyways, you did the right thing. just leave. she'll get the idea that she shouldn't have done that to you. that if she does again, she will just lose another potential client.

If I were you I would do nothing the first time,I think she maybe have a bad mood that day . everyone can have a good mood some days but everyday.because we have press from everywhere. For instance,I am a student and Iam from a poor family so that I must do a pary-time job to make the money.so I am very busy everyday, after classes I must take a bike to the workplace no matter it is raining or sunny.sometimes I do my best but the boss is not satisted with it or there is some difficulties in my study and so on.In a word, like that situation, I will give the salesgirl a time the first time and the second time is not the same.

We have salesgirls in most shops these days, salesmen are no more seen in many shops, well we have 2 kinds of shops, one is FIXED PRICE shop, the other are not fixed price type, the price tags in fixed price shops are very reasonable, no bargaining is permitted.. if one insists, the girls might be annoyed.. but in other shops, the price tags are very high, you may get cheated always.. thanks for this post.. HAPPY NEW YEAR kalyani

That is really arrogant on the part of the sales girl. She should not have answered a customer like that. Well, what was the time when you were there? Was it nearing lunch time or the close time of the store? Some people are too tired and ready to frown on anybody. Then that is the management's responsibility to keep them in a cheering mood always. A short tea break and a rest will keep them charming.

Well, you did bad too, as shop assistants don't have the power to offer discounts on prices that are already marked unless they are the managers, you know. However, that person shouldn't have reacted in such a rude way either.
