I used to be a heavy smoker and last year was struck with two heart attacks and had two stents put in and now am faced with bypass surgery. I have learned that smoking is the basic cause for arteries to clog up in our hearts. How many of you are smoking? Please share and let's discuss this habit.

I have tried to smoke for the fun of it but it never really goes down well with me. I don't understand why people get so addicted to smoking. Smoking not only is health hazard but it sure burn a big hole in our pockets if we are heavy smokers.

Ok, good for you !! I was addicted. I am not now. I will have heart surgery next Friday due to smoking as well as hereditary. I made a decision with the first heart attack to chose LIFE and with the second stent, I still chose life but the heart has different ideas...I will have the surgery and hope I live a long and happy life. Thanks for your response and please never smoke.

Hey, we all do as we have to. You can smoke and be fine with it just like your stents are still open and mine are not. He**, smoking WAS my only vice. I didn't even drink.... I lived in second hand smoke at home as a kid too. I live in it now. Sometimes it stinks and other times I want a cig so bad !! Who knows, lakota? Just like my grandma who never smoked either and she ended up with emphysemia..... It's a matter of the individual I think. you smoke , I don't. We talk. We likey each other LOL hugsssssssssssssssssssssss

I have never been a smoker, but lived around second hand smoke. It did not seem to bother me at the time, but when my daughter got pneumonia when she was 11 the Doctor told her that any time her daddy lit up at home she was to cut the end off the barrette. She would not do that, but he said it contributed to the illness, and made it worse. Since we are in a smoke free house now, I do find that when I have to be around smoke it really affects me a lot. It is one of the hardest habits to break, I am glad you did.

I've never really been a smoker. I don't really like the smell or anything like that. It's never really interested me to try or anything like that. I'm glad that I have never started to smoke. It's a bad habit that I don't really want to have. I find it a little easier this way.

You are very wise not to smoke. It has caused me to have heart trouble and now heart bypass surgery. Not only is it a way to kill you , it's expensive... Just do not smoke and you should be fine.

Used to smoke but not anymore. Besides, never got the hang of it. Tried it before out of peer pressure. Found out later that they were not good friends. Just bad influence and party animals.

OH boy do I love your answer ! Ciggies are terrible on your system and most of all on your heart. Besides it's cheaper not to smoke... Still I will have heart surgery and he surgeon and the cardiologist blame smoking. Take care and leave those ciggies alone...
