IMO to burn the Koran or any religious book is not the action of a Christian. This reminds me of the "Kristallnacht" The spark that ignited the Holocaust and we know what that did to the world.

"We are surprised and shocked at the extreme radicalism being displayed [by Jones] right now on this issue," Stephan Baar of the Christian Community of Cologne told the Associated Press. The 60-member church kicked out Jones in 2008. Jones' estranged daughter says the eviction arose from her father's reported penchant for dipping into the church's till to pay his own expenses.
His fear of a Muslim takeover dates back long before 9-11, to when he ran a sister church in Cologne, Germany, said long-time parishioner Fran Ingram, who sometimes blogs on Jones's church website. For 30 years, Jones led about 1,000 parishioners at the church in a poor German community.

Just a few of the people who condemn such an action;
* The terrorist attacks of 9/11, says the Vatican, "cannot be counteracted by an outrageous and grave gesture against a book considered sacred by a religious community."
* Attorney General Eric Holder called the plan "idiotic and dangerous."
* Presumed presidential candidate Mitt Romney told Politico
"Burning the Quran is wrong on every level. It puts troops in danger, and it violates a founding principle of our republic."
Who is this Pastor Jones?? IMO he is dangerous publicity hound who has done nothing but shame himself as a Christian and an American. I think there should be a Media Blackout regarding this man as any publicity will only feed this man's sick ego!
Your opinion?

I think it is wrong to burn any book regarded as holy and I think he was sort of a loon, but really where were the protests when those Bibles sent to the troops in Afghanistan who were Christian and ordered them themselves, were burned? Hardly a whisper and why because people are afraid of offending the Muslims, but it is all right to offend Christians.
I really do not care whether the president got in touch with this kook who really is not a Christian, but I care about fairness.
I had half forgotten about this book burning threat until someone on mylot reminded me of that book burning in Afghanistan.
By the way, I believe the Koran should be burnt but by those who converted to Christianity, not by this n*t.

I did not know about the Bible burning in Afghanistan! Do you have a link for that information?

I have the links here.

http://www.newser.com/story/59546/us-army-burned-bibles-in-afghanistan.html

http://www.worthynews.com/5740-outrage-over-us-military-bible-burnings-in-afghanistan
Note the last link, and compare it to the outrage that would have happened if that pastor goes ahead and does burn the Koran books.
There was hardly a whisper when the military burnt these Bibles and the people there as quoted on one of the links were "hungry for the word."
Yet if there was an area where the people were Buddhists, there were Muslims in the army who wanted to convert them to Islam, no one would say a thing. And no one would burn the Koran.
Even if there is a rule about prostelyting, if a native of Afghanistan comes and asks for someone to read to them about Jesus, would it be wrong to refuse?
We ought to obey God rather than man.

I have an instinctive aversion to book-burning, whether it's a relgious book or otherwise. It's not acceptable behaviour in a free and democratic society, and to use the 9/11 commemorations as a platform for this sort of stuff is in really bad taste in my opinion. As for this Pastor Jones he just sounds like an attention seeking nutter to me. Unfortunately he has got a lot of attention through this nonsense which is a shame. I wish people like Obama and the Vatican hadn't commented because it just feeds this story (and also no doubt feeds Pastor Jones ego). There again, I guess if they're asked the question they feel obliged to give an answer.

Did anyone here check out his web site before it was taken down? This was not just a flash in the pan publicity stunt. This man is serious and very active against Islam. This is just his most public stunt so far. He has a home where he takes in Islamic women who want to escape their husbands and families and Islam. This must go over Real Well in the Islamic community. I mean the cut off your head if you convert to christianity. I am sure that these women have to convert to get this kind of help...Must be a few headless Burkas walking around town. He and his congregation work full time against Islam in every area they can. They have all kinds of literature available, or did.
I wrote a little message to him from a Jewish point of view on his efforts. I am sure it did not phase him one bit, but at least I tried.

In the text of my discussion I did make reference to his hatred of Muslims when he was in Germany.

Bill O'Reilly was a bit less charitable than you--last night he called Jones a "publicity w$ore" which I think is just about right. There is nothing Christian about Jones. He is everything that has caused people to think Christians are whackos that burn abortion clinics and murder doctors that work there. He is no different from the crazies that masterminded and carried out the murderous September 11, 2001 crimes. Like those monsters, he sees himself as a savior and righteous. And he'll never see the resemblance.
You're right, there should be a media blackout. Why do they cover something like this 24/7 and ignore all the good going on around us? Why is there never any good news, inspiring news? Because it doesn't sell. When the love of money ceases to motivate people, we'll see a big change. Until then, things like this will continue to agitate and stir up conflict, especially when it involves Christianity.

Hi Whiteheather,
The media blackout is a tad bit late at this point. This man should never have been given the coverage and publicity that has made him so famous. That is a big part of the problem. Well, today is 9/11. Time will tell if he has been effectively stopped. I understand that he agreed to put it on hold at least but so far has not agreed to giving up on the idea. It isn't going to do anything towards bringing peace to the world but it will go far in creating even more problems. There is no point in it. In his warped mind this man is convinced that he is doing the right thing.

This only shows, if Islam can produce radical Muslims, radical Christians can possibly emerged too.
