Where do you get your courage?

Is courage something innate or do we become stronger and more courageous if other people have faith in us? Personally, i am not brave but if people believe in me, then i do get strong and motivated. Does this work the same with you? Or are you the real courageous type who shames those who doesnt think well of you? If you are the courageous type, where do you get your strength? Is believing in yourself enough? Many people say that they get their strength from God. But.. what if you are an atheist? Where do you get your strength then?

hi Graceekwenx, I'm a handicapped with no legs. I get my courage from my family and friends and to all the people I meet. I may have not reached this day if I didn't have my courage with me. In my situation in life, I choose to believe what the Lord has given me. Yes, it may not be easy to have an incomplete body but I am thankful to God Almighty for making me his instrument. For I was made to remind everyone of the blessing that was given to them. God Bless

If you want to survive you will have to kill fear. I have killed the fear and that is how i get the courage. I have gained the confidence and i have learned to avoid the restricting beliefs.

I agree with you absolutely! Very well put. Of course, you also have to kill a few spiders on the way!

Hi edwardjoy, HOW do you kill the fear? How do you gain the confidence and avoid the restricting beliefs? Surely saying these things is not enough? @petersum, why kill spiders unless you are afraid, there is no need to be afraid of something so tiny...avoid a spider if you think it is a danger, there's no need to kill.

I was born very strong willed from what i was told. I know i was a pain in the butte to my parents. They never understood where i was coming from. It's a good thing i am strong willed because i had alot of obstacles in my life that i had to work out & overcome.

...i am strong because i have a confidence and trust in myself..although my confidence may not always be there, but so long as there are those people who believes in me, i gain courage from their trust...so basically, i get my strength from my family, friends, girlfriend etc..people who knows the real me and who believes in me...

before i personally thinks myself weak because i'm too sensitive and my tears falls down too fast. but just recently someone told me that crying doesn't make you a weak person, it only shows that you are human and you have feelings that you need to let out. apart from God who really comes first, this person is actually one of the few people why now i believe i'm strong. what really makes me strong is the thought of those people who i know also pulls strength in me, my family, my boyfriend. these people who are the same reason why i work hard, why i keep myself healthy. and now there is another reason why i believe i'm strong, it's because i want a brighter future for myself. thanks to my boyfriend for making me realize these things.

I am not an atheist and I don't have any plans of becoming one. When I had a tragic experience in my life, I really depend and got my strength from God. It came to a point that I almost want to give up but God kept me moving on. I know that it was Him who allowed me to surpass such hardship and I will always be nothing without Him. I can't do things on my own because I am weak and imperfect.

To answer this, I will not include God because that's an obvious element (and the best in my list) that most people will put as the resource of courage. The very resource I've got is my parents. I've seen them struggling in life, through pain and trials. No matter hard the problem that they have to face, they always go on. I remember a wise words my father told me, "Any kind of life problems have their solutions, and it depends on your courage to find and act on it."

Hello Grace I belong to the real courageous type, i have faced several critical situations alone; this courage and strength comes from the self confidence and faith on god, if one has strong faith on god, he will definitely provide necessary strength to face all obstacles.. Thanks for sharing. Welcome always, cheers. Professor. .
