This is one thing I am working on from few months. I am an international student came to USA for my higher studies. I recently graduated and started working. But the problem is my employer does not provide health insurance. I cannot effort to buy one as they are really expensive. I am being paid a an amount that covers my house rent and groceries. I cannot think of going to luxuries. I tried to apply for medicaid, but my paycheck couple of hundred dollars more than there limit, which disqualified me. But the thought of being uninsured scares me out to death. I can pay some 30 dollars a month for insurance but not more.. I do not understand how everybody in US manages to get insured when the premiums or so high and there are so many limitations again to any given insurance plan. Is anybody in the same boat. Please help me.

Welcome to my country friend. I have lived here all my life and the unbelievable amounts for monthly premium is outrageous. I have had no health insurance for almost six years. I do not get the medicaid either. So I thank GOD every day that I am healthy. But as you I fret about this for a long time as I cannot afford general check-ups that are crucial to remaining and catching anything in advance. The health care system in US is outrageous. Fees are 300% upgraded market. This is why it is such a hot topic with our government. However, the quick solutions they are coming up with will not be a benefit for US citizens as it will be mandatory to purchase health insurance, but how when one just can't afford it. They say they are going to offer something as "cheap" as $1,200 mandatory for a yearly plan. What planet do they live on. If we can barely just pay for rent, utilities and food. Where would they suppose the additional $1,200 would come from. Hopefully you will escalate to a higher careered position where your employer can offer you group insurance. Although when I had group insurance, yes it did not cost me a monthly premium. But the yearly deductible was $25,000 out of my pocket and only 50% coverage. So virtually I had to pay for all medical services out of pocket. Ugh. Good luck to you and blessings on your employment.

Aaaahhhh... What a pity! I really hope the government will come up with something really useful for an average to be insured and safe . When the people who can pay for treatment are the once who can afford for premium payments. I do not see any logic in this .. Hhmmm

To tell you the truth, most of us are uninsured as well. If you are a student, talk to someone in Student Services at your school. They should be able to give you some names of companies that have policies for students. These policies are usually affordable.
