Pursuing higher education or graduate studies...

Because of tough competition, sometimes it is not enough to just only obtain your BS degree to have the position you want, some companies prefer a Masteral Degree or even PhD. In your opinion, do you think having a Masteral up to PhD degree is really a must nowadays eventhough you're not that enthusiastic with the given field? What are the factors influencing your decision to pursue MS or PhD? (out of the blue question- is it a requirement if you want to get rich easily?) Thank you very much!

Indeed, in today's society, it is not enough just to have a BS degree. Due to increased living conditions, more and more people have the access to educational opportunities. As such, more people holds a degree now as compared to the past. Furthermore, knowledge is never-ending. We never stop learning until we die. I don't think it is really a must to have a Master or PhD. First and foremost, if we re not enthusiastic in the field, we'll have a hard time studying and I think it will be a waste of money at the end of the day. We should try to enroll ourself into a course that we are interested in. Otherwise, what is the purpose of the piece of paper? No, It is NOT a requirement if we want to get rich easily. Anyway, in life, I don't believe in getting rich easily. We need to stand on our own feet and work hard before we can get rich. No pain, no gain. There are many examples where people are rich even without have a degree. However, if you really want to get rich, there is not easy way. Good luck!

Thank you for this great answer, I agree with your point.. ^.^.. hmmm.. "Life goes on" as what they say so I guess even competition is tough--as long as I'm here breathing, I will break free, learn everyday from experience and reach out for my dreams with or without MS or PhD.. Good luck also dream_ozn! ^.^!

..in my opinion, no..it is only a compliance set by every company but it is not a requirement that every individual should follow to become successful...they based that according to surveys...becoming a successful individual does not require you to attain a higher education or learn all the information and knowledge in this world..it requires patience and determination to succeed...there are people who get rich easily despite the fact that they are dropped out or haven't gone to school once..

Although it helps, I don't think an MS or PhD is really a requirement if you just want to 'get rich easy'. I think it is all relative. To the amount of work that you put in. So if you are not enthusiastic in taking up further studies, then why do it? Just put all your efforts instead in your career, or your business, rather than wasting your time in half-hearted education.

That depends on what your doing... In this economy I would say if your not sure don't get the masters. My reasoning is that if you don't enjoy it why pay for it? I am currently half way through my BS and I have changed major and schools. I have an okay job and I like it so I decided to go ahead and get a degree in the field. I have no intention of getting rich quickly or even getting rich at all... I enjoy living a green lifestyle and I want a small home. Which is probably good with all the student loans and such. I would like to be rich in family.

Hi pinkhawk! I am in thesis writing for a masters degree in social science research. In actual fact, I don't believe in degrees as you can learn even without the degree. There are people who succeed who don't have titles added after their names. But this has become a necessity or a means of sieving out the many potentials from the so few available opportunities in a workplace. Final analysis, it is your choice to have one or not depending on what you want for your future.

I used to think that way before. My plan after I graduated in College is to get a Masteral Degree and then PhD. However, my plans eventually changed when I joined my current company. I realized I don't need to have a Masteral Degree and PhD and even BS degree to be where I am now. I have a BS Degree but I was never able to use that in my current job. The reason I reach the post I have now in my company is because of hard work, perseverance, passion in what I do, integrity and dedication. There are kind of jobs that requires a Masteral Degree and PhD specially if you want to reach greater heights. However, it depends on the career path that you want. In my case my chosen field does not require those two for me to be where I am now. God bless in your endeavors and have a nice day always!

Frankly, this is a question confusing me too .i am preparing for graduate entrance exam .the main reason why i do it is that i am not very self-confident .i want to prove myself by a higher degree .however,i don't know whether the master's degree can bring me what i want .i just do it .Fortunately,i like my major .so i don't have to learn anything i am not interested at all . do i want to get rich easily ? of course.nobody likes to work hard and suffer his boss's swear.if i hit the jackpot,i would be definitely happy .but i can't count on the GOD ,can i ?

sometimes obtaining Masters or PhD is a passion for the field you're into. It isn't a requirement for success. I didn't graduated but i'm doing well in my field now and i know i'll be successful to someday. it is in your drive and your determination to be on top that makes you on top. there maybe some jobs that will require those degrees but i've known a lot of people who also reached the same position without taking masters. they started from the bottom of the line and showed everyone that they got what it takes to be in the highest position. you can do that to with or without degrees as long as you have conviction and you're dedicated to what you're doing you can definitely be a success.
