When is your cat most awake and playful?

I am taking care of my neighbor's cat and am wondering...
When does your cat seem to have the most energy?
What hours is your cat the most playful?
I am wondering what hour I should visit the cat as I would like to find her alert and eager to play when I get there.

It may depend on how old the cat is. My kittens nap a lot during the day and love to tear through the house together all night long. On the other hand, my older cats try to be awake and more playful when we are all in the house (for as long as they can manage to keep their eyes open). Cats sleep an average of 16 hours a day, so chances are your neighbor's cat sleeps a lot too. However, if the cat is friendly in general, and hungry, too, he/she will wake when you arrive and will give you some attention (at least until you feed it). But some cats are very solitary, or shy around strangers, so she may not want to play--or may decide to play one day and not the next. That's how most cats are, so don't get discouraged if the cat doesn't play with you too much. Once the cat associates you will food, it will likely become very friendly :-).

Thanks for your informative post pointing out the difference between the older cat and the kitten.
Re: the cat I was taking care of --- an older cat
Well, the cat was fickle as expected, one day appearing eager to be petted and purring and the next day hiding in the closet.
She did associate me with food but I was not her mother and she knew that her mother would come back soon so she did not really want to bother too much with me.
To put it another way,Princess Gabbie was acting kind of regal... not really acting all that interested in receiving visitors especially visitors who did not know that her latest facsination was crinkled up paper balls instead of the string that she used to like before. (The mother=cat owner did not tell me this prior to her return home today. Oh well.)
Thanks again for your post.

We have an older girl cat named Cleo--she is quite regal too--sounds just like her! She is so fickle that she will be affectionate to me only when my husband isn't home--and as soon as she sees him, she becomes distant and aloof with me. It's pretty funny, actually.
The next time you cat-sit, no doubt her behavior will change once again!

It is good that your cats adapt to the way that you are. They are smart cats! Thanks for posting!

My cat like me, is a night creature he doesn't much play during the day even though hes getting more active because he has my friends cat to play with and she likes the day time.
