I noticed that the other religion such as the Protestant in our place didn't celebrate christmas, birthdays, new years etc. Just like our neighborhood. they are always go to their church and I noticed that no party in their house even if the members of the family have a birthday but no party at all. they never like to have a party. and take note, they don't even eat the blood of the pig which we used in making a Dugo- Dugo or dinuguan. Does anyone know about this?

The world has many religions. Each religion believes in different things. Some view Christmas, birthdays, and other holidays has having nothing to do with God, Jesus, or the Bible. They have looked at their roots and they are not what they want to do. Many religions will not eat blood, like Jews, Muslims, Jehovah's Witnesses and others. It is against their religions to eat blood.

Well, the two of you have a point that celebrating christmas is a waste of time and money but my mother always believe that we always celebrate christmas because it is the day when Jesus christ born so , we are happy in that time and it is a way that our families, relatives are loving each other. Good point! I used to celebrate it but after thinking about it I decided not to do it anymore. What is Christmas anyway? Did Jesus tell us to celebrate it?

Are you from Cebu? You said dugo-dugo and I think only people in Cebu use that term for the dinuguan. Some religion think that its unclean to eat the blood of the pig. Some also dont celebrate Christmas cause they dont believe that Jesus is God. Some dont even celebrate their birthdays.

Are you talking about Iglesia ni Cristo. Yes, some other religions are not celebrating Christmas it is because they don't believe with Jesus Christ. Other like Muslim either, they do believe Mohammed. The reason that they don't eat Dinuguan it is because of their health as well. My friend told me that because blood is not really part of our food and it looks like cannibalism.

Actually, there are people who have very strong religious beliefs, but dont participate in any type of holiday or celebration. Celebrating holidays and practicing religion is all a choice each individual makes.

Protestants are Christians and there are a few sects who choose not to celebrate Christmas. That is their choice ... Protestants, by definition, are, after all Christians who protest against the teachings of the Catholic Church (in one way or another ... usually against the use of Latin in services and scripture). I don't know about your customs of eating 'the blood of the pig'. We, in the UK have black pudding which is rather more of an 'everyday' item (often eaten for breakfast). It's a sausage made from pig's blood, fat and breadcrumbs (and other things). For Christmas, however, we would eat a special meal of roast turkey, beef or (traditionally) goose with roast potatoes, parsnips, brussels sprouts and stuffing (which is made of breadcrumbs, onions and sage and used to be cooked stuffed into the cavity of the bird but is more often served separately these days). The celebration of Christmas, however, is much more than just a meal. It's the time for decorating the house with greenery, the central point of which is the tree (shamefully, often a plastic imitation these days!) and a time for giving and receiving presents. For many Christians it's a time to remember the birth of Jesus (even though He was more likely born in the month of March) and that is what 'Christmas' was originally about. I am sorry if your impression of Christianity is that we don't like to celebrate things! Most Christians (like any other people) like to celebrate many things and I would say that those you know are NOT typical of what Christianity is about!

Maybe, the UK protestant and the Philippines protestant have different in belief. Because in our country, most protestant people not eating pork because they believe that if they eat pork they cannot go to the heaven if they die. Hi careguarden, Are you talking about different religions or just different denominations within Christianity. Protestants are Christians, they just aren't catholics. Most Christians celebrate Christmas but other religions do not. Blessings.

7th Day Adventists don't eat pork and don't celebrate holidays. It's most likely that is what your neighbors are.

Celebrating some occasion is at our own choices and preferences. I have also seen some people not celebrating festivals. It all depends on one's own thinking and beliefs. But I myself love festivals and also Christmas. Festivals and parties gives us some time to spend with our relatives and friends.

yes, they don't celebrate Christmas because they are celebrating other festivities too.. Like Muslims after Ramadan they have Hari Raya which is considered big event to them as they had a 1 month fasting. Indians have Deepavali and Chinese have Chinese New Year. Different countries, different religions, different cultures etc... lets just respect each others' differences.

I think you are right eunelle. ,maybe it is not their reason why they didn't celebrate Christmas because they have their own holiday in celebrating. Well, thanks for sharing your comments with us and have a nice day ahead Godbless
