Well, it can't do the battery any harm, so long as you do put it back in to give it regularly use. (And yes, you could do the whole discharge/recharge thing if you can be bothered).
The only problem is you risk a sudden shutdown (which is bad for your CPU/memory/data loss/ enjoyment of the movie etc) if you have a power cut on your mains electricity supply.

I run my laptop with the power cord all the time snice i use it so much. my batery is not as good as it was so it does not stay on as long anymore. it use to last on hour and 15 mines but doent last for about 15 mins. I think I read in my manual that is inportant to to over charge your batter so sometimes you have to pull out the cord and not leave it constaily charged.

I don't have any problem with battery since I always use it for hours and to avoid battery leak and broken I removes the battery often I only use battery when I need to recharge it, don't worry about using your laptop without battery it wouldn't destroy it anyway

Hello friend,
That is going to do no good for the lappy battery. If you really want to maintain a long battery life, drain your battery before you could charge it the next time. Yeah, drain your battery constantly, don't run it on A/C power all the time with the battery inside, if you do that it is going to lower your battery life. So rather use your laptop more like a cell phone. Charge it, use it, drain the battery and when it is about to die, put the power back again and charge it until it's charged again and then remove it again. If you do what you have said here, your battery is going to be left unused and that isn't going to help. So take care and if you follow this, your laptop battery is going to have a long back up and would not die out soon. All the best.

I use my laptop for work everyday. Maily connected to the mains, though I run it on battery at times to make it live longer.
I wouldn't advise to leave your laptop without a battery. It might serve you as a UPS in case you have electricity cut off. Without the one your laptop will sut down immediately possibly causing some trouble to your system.
