Why do I need to bailout banks??

I was this morning listening to an economist and a banker who openly boasting that now here in Ireland each and every citizen has a debt of 20k to bailout banks and still no one can do anything to stop them giving huge bonuses??? I have a mortgage to pay which I cant afford to pay any longer and as well other debt. I dont mind pay this 20k to the banks but will I get this money back soon on my account? Can someone please explain why we cant just let this big fat rich bankers go to the hell??

I know it seems unfair but if the banks go bankrupt a lot of people will lose money with them which will make the global financial situation even worse than it is. I do not think that the big shot bosses should be on the silly salaries that they are and nor should the bonuses get handed out until we are all out of this mess that the greedy investors put us in anyway. By the way, welcome to my lot :)
