So I am on Helium... now what?

I just joined Helium and I must say the site is looking rather confusing so far. How exactly do I get started with the writing? What are all these titles they mention? Can't I choose my own title for my articles? If anyone here cares to help a total Helium newbie or perhaps point me to a newbie guide for Helium I would really appreciate it!

Hi Puccagirl, Helium seems a little confusing at first and can even be a little frustrating until you work out how things function. First, you get started by writing a 400 word article. You can find a title on the home page or create one of your own. Because Helium is competitive and you have to earn stars my suggestion is you start with competitive articles, that is titles that already have articles in them. There are two strategies for writing competitive articles: 1) Titles with less than 5 articles are eligible for upfront payments and 2) Titles with several articles (50 or more) help to improve your writing score and maintain your writing stars. In order to earn money from Helium you must maintain at least one rating star. How much money you earn in upfront payment depends on the number of writing stars that you have. It seems confusing, but it really is simple once you break it down. You will need to get to at least 20 quality articles to hold onto at least one or two writing stars and earn from them. Many people complain about Helium, but I was able to reach payout within a month once I sorted things out and started earning. I've been at Helium a year now and I am now a channel manager and an editor. A note about earning and passive income: I have almost enough accrued to get the minimum amount for payout and I have not contributed a single article yet this month. That give you a hint of what is possible. You can reach me via my profile or on Helium in the Hobbies and Games channel if you need help with Helium.

No, it is not that similar to MyLot actually, sachitra84. It is an article writing site, more similar to Bukisa and Triond if you have heard of them? It seems very promising though!

Yes, it does seem to be somewhat confusing, but people really seem to love the site too, so I think you should stick around. I think there is a lot of potential there, all one needs to do is to learn how to use it I guess!

Choose a subject that you enjoy - be it cooking, films, books etc and try to find an article on it that you can add yours too. Or even review a product on there. You are better writing on titles that have at least one article on thenm you start to earn writing stars

I see! I somehow thought that they would prefer having articles on new topics that have not been written about before. So this is very helpful indeed, thanks so much oldchem1!
