Do you update your windows and antivirus. If not than you are doing a mistake. If even one of them is not up do date than you computer could be easily attacked by virus. Many people thing that it doesnt matter that they update there windows or not. But actually it matters as always there are some loopholes in OS. Os company tries to close that loopholes but still all cant be close at a time or could be checked. SO whenever they came to know about such loob holes they close them in upcoming update. If you wont update virus may enter your computer through these loop holes.
WHY TO UPDATE AV
yes you should also update your av as when any new virus is borned antivirus may need a new file to detect it and repair it. In update process that will is transferred to your computer.
So update your computer to be virus free.
If you are computer is infected with any virus or you need any help about softwares and virus than please comment else also please comment aboutmy post.

I just let it auto update it for me. But I don't know whether my AV works well or not. My computer always gets slow down after few months and I have to reinstall window again, it takes a lot of time! Anyway it's impossible to have no virus with window. Some people say that Mac doesn't have virus, is it true?

yes
mac book doesnt have virus
This is because till now all viruses are spread through exe files and mac doesnt support them.(we you install windows on mac than ofcourse virus can be there)
Even linux is virus free. Thats why today 80% laptops in offfice are of apple using mac os.

tips for you so that you dont have to format it:
1)Defragment your pc whenever you think that pc is being slow
2)keep on updating av (I prefer avast)
3)If on vista clean restore points.
4)if reinstalling windows please use full format not quick as quick format doesnt remove viruses
5)it is advisable to delete partition and than recreate(It make your all data to be delete)
6)Keep on formatting HDD reduces its life.

I use a mix of auto updates, weekly updates and quick/full scans. I rarely get viruses, as I browse mainly text and blogging platforms. I even stopped using certain spyware programs, since they were all clean scans. But I know of people that get plenty of trojans, spyware, etc, because they visit/download those free music files. That's when, I guess, frequent updates (and upgrades), and full scans need to be rigorously implemented.

Yes, it is important to update these things. New things come out on an almost daily basis. Both for the good and for the bad, but still the point is that these things do come out and we need to keep on the cusp of updating everything. If we don't update these things, then we would just be doing a damage to ourselves and to our computers.
So yeah, I keep these things updated on a regular basis. I think there have been some harsh lessons learned in the past about why I should do it but live and learn. Right now, I keep right on that, to keep my computer pretty safe and secure and running about as well as can be expected. It is just one of those things that it might seem tedious but it is more tedious when dealing with the problems of not doing it.
