When i was waiting to pickup my son at his school, there are several auto drivers also standing there to pickup other students. Most of the drivers are smoking and its look like a smoking festival. I was getting irritation with this smoke i asked them to go anywhere and smoke since that is a school area. Along with me there are many other ladies (pregnant ladies too) also standing there for their children. Because of these auto drivers we are also forced to breath that smoke. Why people will not think about this, that smoking is injuries to health not only to them but also others too. It is rather polluting the air! Friends, Share with me about this matter and your such incidents if any.

It is only common courtesy to remove yourself from an area where others are located if you want to smoke and this comment comes from a former smoker. If people choose to harm their own health, that is their own business but when they choose to harm the health of others that is everyone's business. Usually, there are local or state ordinances that do not allow smoking within a certain distance from schools and public places. Do you not have those laws in your area?

I wasn't suggesting that you move. I was suggesting that as a matter of courtesy the smoker should move but if they do not do so, I would complain to the school. I don't know where you live but in my community you are not allowed to smoke within 25 feet of a public location and in terms of a school, it is 50 feet. Sorry for the misunderstanding

Smoking in our place is quiet common --- they never care as who is passing by..seem to have lost in that awful smoke.I never liked that smell so i maintain some distance from my friends who smoke so often at regular intervals.great day.

hello Jo, That is really annoying. Here in our country,it is not allowed to smoke in public places. There are only certain areas that a person can smoke. If someone is caught smoking at public places esp with pregnant women around, you can have the smoker reported to the nearest police for complaint and violation. I hope those people will realized that they are giving harm to others. Have a good day always

Hi jai, how are you? How is your family members? True jai it is very annoying. Yeah you have that rules nice to know, but i wouldn't rule should be there for some decent attitudes right? People should know that what will happen if they smoke to themselves and to others. Nowadays everywhere they are displaying about the smoking and the causes through the smoking but still people are addicted. And for pregnant ladies it is more harmful and also awful. Thanks for your nice response. God bless you.

On the school properties in our county, smoking is not permitted, so this isn't a problem that parents have to deal with when they are picking their children up from school. That said, I think that there should be rules about where parents are able to smoke and there isn't a rule in place that there can't be smoking on the school property. I will admit that I am a smoker, but I do try to be considerate of all people that are nonsmokers.

I, myself, am a smoker. i don't like it, but I'm trying to quit. All I can say, is that when someone asks me to move, or put it out, I do. It's common courtesy! Some people don't care. I have run into those smokers that pretty much say f-you! It's a free country! but, you also have to right to not breathe in the smoke if you don't want to. i can't believe they were smoking on school grounds! We can't smoke around my old school. Not even in the parking lot, unless you were lighting as you were leaving. That was very inconsiderate of them, and they should have respected you and the others wishes...

Hi kala, happy to see you in my discussion. True, we must protect from the diseases. But how? people around us also think about it kala. Especially this auto drivers don't have that courtesy or positive thinking.

I believe second hand smoking is a lot more harmful to our health than when you are the one actually smoking. As much as possible, I try to avoid being in the same area with smokers especially when I am with my kids. If they don't care that much about their health, there is no point for them to affect the people around them too.

Hi Jotomy, I had to look at your profile and I see you are not from the States. Here in the US, we are not allowed to smoke on school property or most public property for that matter. We are very considerate of non-smokers for the most part here. Every now and again you will find a smoker that is careless or not considerate of others but not often. Here, smokers are very limited to the places that they can smoke in. I don't imagine you would find a group of smokers standing around in front of a school waiting for their children.

Hi sid556, yes i am not from US, i am from India. Here they say that smoking is not allowed in such places still some people will do. Yeah careless people will do. People should have a little common sense about such attitudes. Some people never bothered about others how much it will effect to others. Thanks for your nice response. Have a good day. Hi kellysun, there are regulations but people should follow know.

I used to be a smoker around 17 years ago. Back then there weren’t so many restrictions for smokers but I recall being aware of other people around and taking care not to irritate others with my bad habit! It is called consideration and it’s a shame you had to ask the folks who were smoking to move but why should you and everyone else inhale their second hand smoke? It is plain rude not to mention unhealthy and I am so glad I gave up before I had my daughter; at her school there is no smoking whatsoever allowed on or near the premises…

I told my boyfriend about it that we will not getting married if he smokes because that is a concern not only to his health but to the whole families health. Aside from that I don't want my area to be like smoking lounge.

Hi Metatronik, You did a good thing by telling him not to smoke. It is true that if anyone is smoking in the family that will effect to the whole family too. And they loose love and affection of the family members too. Thanks for your nice response. Have a good day.
