When you just want to get away from everything, do you have a spot where to go to? I have one at work. There is a guy who manages one of the stores in the factory where I work at. His desk is inside the store. Very out of the way, and not very visible unless someone really ventures out to find him. He has a visitor chair in front of his desk, and I used to find myself sitting there if I didn’t want to deal with my boss, or if I was feeling lazy, or it was just Friday afternoon and I can’t wait for the weekend. The only down side of that hiding spot is I got to listen to him yap.
Anyway, I don’t go there often anymore because if I find myself with too much time, I just myLot, even at work.
How about you? When you just want to get away from the day to day stuff, and didn’t want anybody finding you, where do you go? Do you think it is healthy to have something like this? Or is this just a form of running away from things and not really good?

Hi bounce. I know that our building has a prayer room in the basement. However, I was not able to visit the prayer room that much ever since my office mate brought me there. Last week, I was paranoid that my mom is suffering from a serious illness. I was literally shaking on my way to work and feeling faint. When I arrived at our building, I immediately went to the prayer room. The room was empty and I said my prayers out loud and wept. It was so comforting, to communicate with God like that. After praying, I felt comforted and assured that my mom is in good health. My faith in Him deepened after that moment, all thanks to that hiding place called the prayer room. :)

That is a good use for a hiding spot! I've indicated in here a few times that my hiding spot would be to clear my head and to hear myself think. In fact those very acts could very well mean 'to pray'. And to ensure that whatever prayer I say is heard and hopefully answered.
Hope that your mom is feeling better!

Hiya bounce,
Where ever I am I will always try and make a "hiding spot" for me. Now the one I have is the Balcony outside in the Warm Sun but that won´t be for long. So after it will be in here in this small Room with the excuse I am researching something. I think we all need those "hiding spots" all of us no matter who we are. They are our safety valves so to speak. I am surely glad that I have got more than one up my sleeve (grin).

Hiya bounce,
Glad you to see that you have those "safety valves" at hand. I am now here in my "safety valve" at the moment. But not for long I can tell you.
When the pressure is on sometimes I go and switch the Television on even though I am not really watching it I am mostly reading to relax and looking out of the Window that I open and close when no one is looking (grin).
Better still would be the Seychelles for three months don´t you think all on your own no one to bother you at all bliss perfect bliss.

If I could have a hiding spot which is a balcony, with a warm sun overhead, then it would be perfect! If that could even be at work, then it would be doubly perfect! Yes, I do need those 'safety valves' once in a while.
Good for you that you have more than one!
Thanks!

I go to the bathroom and sit in the tub, I've done this since I was a little girl. It's relieving to be able to do this, and quiet, no one will bother you, or not much. I know it's a weird sort of place to go to, but that's where I went. Even at work, though the jobs I had I couldn't hide away for long.

That's an interesting hiding spot! I assume that you go in there fully clothed, and without water in the tub.
I guess I could do the same at home. And when I lock the door, people on the outside wouldn't know the difference, what I am doing inside.
Thanks!

Yep fully clothed. At my grandparents growing up the vanity they had went from one side of the wall to the other, so we could sit on it, I would do this from time to time, sometimes running water in the sink and soaking my feet. There was a mirror so I did some self reflection (literally but it helped me think).
Now though it's just the bathtub, though not a very quiet place (the den's right outside of our bathroom).

I really wish that I had a secret place where I was able to go, but that isn't the case at all. I think that the majority of the time when I am frustrated with how something is going in my life I tend to come on mylot and just pound out my frustrations on the computer. It is sort of like a secret place, but I am in plain view of anyone that might need me (ie my children). This week has been bad for me so I've been pounding out more on here than typical I think.

I think that's a great description of myLot! A virtual hiding place!
I may not have realized it, but I too do the same. When something is off in my real world, I also tend to go in here and put everything that concerns me in writing. It's a temporary storage so I don't have to carry all the burden in my head.

You know what I do. When I just need some time to myself I go out into the garden and just sit on a chair and enjoy the silence. Obviously I have to make sure the kids and mu husband are busy doing something so they don't know I have gone!
We always have a lot of family visitors staying over with us for a long period of time so the garden is not a place i can go. In that instance I lock myself in the bathroom for a few minutes to get away and compose myself. I think we all need a space of our own, even if it is for a few minutes.

I would definitely chose the garden over the bathroom, but I guess the bathroom is the quickest and most convenient way to get-away from everything.
I also enjoy the silence. It helps clear my mind, and help me hear myself think. Even if you're surrounded by love ones, there are just days where it would be great to get away from them, even for just a few minutes.

a hiding spot?? me i go to the beach... no one knows that i go there. i do this when i want to be alone. too bad that sometimes people whom i know pass by, but it is enough for me to feel alone but secure,.
it is a healthy thing to do. people have to sometimes empty their minds to move on and accept everything that going on with their lives...
i dont think that it is running away, maybe its just a pause... to whatever ur doing..

Being a parent I really dont have time to run away from things and hide lol. Sometimes if I need a breather I will just go up in my room for a few minutes and close the door. Usually one of the kids follow me though so I dont really get a break that way. My husband and I split up about 9 months ago so now I actually do get a break when he the kids for a few hours after hes done working twice a week. He takes them all day on sunday though and over night one night every other weekend. Its nice to have quiet in my house but I usually am to busy to relax. Like yesterday I had to clean and work on stuff that I had sold on ebay as well as paint the trim in my bathroom while he had the kids. I picked the kids up and got in a fight with him. I wish I didnt have to see him at all we cant get along.

It sounds like your breaks from your ex, and sometimes without the kids, give you your scheduled hiding place, your house. I know it may seem still hectic, because the break up was fairly recent, I'm sure it'll get better. Soon you'll have enough time for yourself to readjust to whatever stress life throws your way.
Thanks for the response.

Well...the bathroom. I know it sounds weird but it's the only quiet place I have to be alone. At home, I have a big busy family ranging from my cousins doing homework in the living to my aunt cooking in the kitchen to my mother using the computer in the den. In the dorms, I have two roommate who comes in and out a lot. The bathroom actually isn't that bad. My mom sprays it with a nice lemon scent.

There is no getting away at work for me..lol...the moment I try to go to the bathroom or anywhere..someone is paging me for something..lol...at home..I do computer for my time. On very rare occasions, I go to my room and rest. I think that everyone needs a little time away. Nothing wrong with that.

I know that when we're at work, we should be spending all of our time dedicated to the work that we are supposed to be doing. But, I don't think that's right that you don't have any place to go, and that even when you go to the bathroom, work still hounds you.
I hope you get paid well enough!

I'm not catholic. But, my favorite hiding places (when I was at university and a few years after) were a chapel in school, at a hospital run by the school and at a big cathedral in the city I lived. Of course, nobody would expect to find me there, which gave me a lot of space. And, most of those times, I had cried and prayed and generally calmed my self back to my senses. Now, since I live in the metro where I know only a few people, pretty much any mall is a hiding place for me

I think I've done that a couple of time in high school! Hide in a church. I remember it as being so quiet, and I was able to clear my thoughts. And I also remember praying for whatever pressure-things I had back in the day.
Sometimes I hide in the mall too these days, but only during on work/week days when most people are in the offices.

Oh, but I love going to the malls even when there are a lot of people. As long as they're strangers, they don't bother me. I used to study at McDonalds food chains because the scattered noise soothes me - it becomes a white noise background, so yeah, I might add McDonalds to my hiding places

This is absolutely must have for me. If I am not having it I will probably explode from inside cause of stress or that kind of things. I usualy go to one place realy near my flat. Only 350-400 meter but I never realized how unusaly silence is there before. I dont have boss on top of me so cant realy hide from him but I can hide there from overworking. Did I mention it is near primary school? Maybe we all want to go back in time when we was young and the things with the most priority was get out of school as fast as possible.

I do not have a particular place that I go. I used to get in my car and drive around, but with gas prices climbing, and not really having a person to watch my child, I now just chill in my house. I find a room where no one else in is and put on headphones. I turn off my phone, shut off the lights, and just let the world disappear for a few minutes. This re-charge time is important for my whole family. I am much calmer and balanced after only a few minutes.

I know gas is expensive, but I am guilty of still trying to drive around when I want to get away. The feeling of leaving things behind seem to do the trick for me, even though I sometimes just wander aimlessly.
Isn't that incredible? That just a few minutes with the lights off, and with the headphones can do wonders for re-charging!
Thanks!

I've always wanted to find one. One where you could just sit, relax and think. Where no one else knows or goes. I've been looking for such a place but can't find a good one. So all I have now is my bedroom. But I've always wanted a place in a mountain, or near a river or where nature lurks. I always feel bless and good when I look at the beauty of nature. My bedroom's not my typical type, I feel bored and locked up. I'm now thinking of really looking for a good hiding spot. Thanks for your post.

When I worked I always found an out of the way spot to go out and have a cig break. A few minutes by myself and I was ready to get back to the work at hand. I think it's good for everyone to have a spot where they can go to get away from co-workers or the boss to have a few minutes to gather your thoughts. Now that I'm at home I sometimes take a short walk and clear my head or just a few minutes to myself, then when I get back I pick up where I left off.

Well I cannot hide lol unless my kid is sleep or something. I usually will go take a walk or go to the bathroom and sit there especially with alone time. We have a patio as well, but I never really use it. I have never liked people asking me what is wrong so I just keep everything to my self haha. Yes my hiding places are limited and don't have many now.
My sons is his toy chest and under his crib lol for some odd reason he is always under something lol

Funny about kids! You are right, they are always under something. I think it's their way of seeing things from a different perspective.
The bathroom is a common hiding spot. It is the only place where the people on the outside wouldn't dare bother us when we're in.

When I want to clear my head and hide for a while i jump on my pushbike and ride along the river. Getting fresh air, looking around and letting nature calm me down and relax my senses. Most of the time i have some nice music in my ears to listen to, so that i don't get distracted by other people's voices or traffic noise. When i find a nice quiet spot somewhere outdoors, where it is worth stopping for a break, i take my headphones off and listen do the sound of the water, the birds singing and feel the sun on my skin. That might sound a bit corny but go and try it. This is great. You sort of concentrate just on beeing there - right now in that specific moment and it feels pretty good. Going for a walk can do the same for me. Preferable through a forest or bush with no silly traffic. I reckon everyone needs a place to escape. Not hide there forever - no - just to reassess and refuel to keep going and to stay sane. Have you considered the outdoors as a hiding place?
