How do you learn to cook?

Vietnam

Normally, mother will teach her daughters/sons. But I'm not. When I was at high school, I only study and study. I mustn't cook. When I was a student, I stayed in dormitory, I didn't permit to cook. So, when I graduated from my university, I have started to learn how to cook from my friends and guide books. At the beginning, It's difficult. I often break my meal. But All are OK after that and It's very interesting. How are you?

I learned from cookbooks as well! But that was kind of after I had some "tutorials" from my uncle and roommates. Basically, they just told me the common arrangement of which goes first in the pot for most dishes, so I kind of got the hang of it. I suggest you start with meals you are fully familiar with, so you can better gauge how much you're improving. :)

Why don't you learn more about cooking? It's very interesting. You can cook the meals which your family or your partner like. They'll be happy when you cook for them by your self.

My Father is the cook in our house. He will never let any of us touch anything in the kitchen because he'll get angry if his kitchen is not in order. But I am a stubborn bull. So when my parents are not around I began experimenting and concocting recipes for me and my brother. I started doing that when I was still 12 years old. My brother is the taster. He usually fancy my cooking. So I cook anything and I even bake. I am so thankful I have all those training before getting married since they said, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. So now I am cooking for my husband and my kids and they appreciate every meal I made. Through the years I also enhance what I've learned.

Must your mother be happy about your father? :) May father can't cook any things. So, he can't help my mother in cooking. I hope that my husband will cook for me and my children like your father.

I learn basic cooking while watching my aunties when I was a kid. My mom also thought just a few dishes when I was pregnant with my first son. And for other dishes, I learned from recipe books, recipe printed on product cover, or online.

That's good. At last you had the time to learn cooking. Cheers! :) In my case, I learned to cook when my mother wasn't around. Before I went to the university, I was the one who usually cooked in our house. My siblings were very young then to help. Actually, I already forgot how I learned how to cook. All I can remember is that when I started cooking at the house, they just made me cook more often. My father will just buy the vegetables and ingredients from the market. Based from the stuff available, I cook the dish and it went that way from time to time. The most common cooking I learned was sautéing. There are so many vegetables in our place and sautéing is always applicable for them.

I was very lucky that I learnt to cook at my mother's knee, and I have always made sure that my five children learned to cook with me, now I teach my grandchildren. However if people have not had this experience it isd still possible to learn to cook. The main thing is that you WANT to do it and that you are interested in food and eating. These days you don't even need to buy recipe books are there are so many available online. I'm sure that you'll soon pick it up and I do hope that you enjoy the process of learning such a wonderful skill as cooking!

As far as I am concerned, I usually learn to cook from my father who is a good cooker in my family and cook so delicious . We family memebers enjoy his cooking so much. But for my cooking, it is just so-so that I can enjoy it by myself . As to my father or mother will just eat but without any other comment on the cookings that I have cooked.

Based on my experience, I learned to cook just by watching on cooking reality TV shows, watching my mother or my grandmother cooking at home providing me a one by one step of what to do. Then, mom bought recipe books then I used to read it and get familiar with some of the ingredients and procedures. Then, I'm focusing on meatless dishes. I enjoyed cooking a lot at home. I also enjoyed watching at my siblings eating the food I cooked and they like it. And yah, I love cooking spicy dishes.. That's my all time fave.. I love cooking but Im not expert in cooking..
