All of these are fads and at the best temporary. So if anyone chose any method other than healthy eating and exercise, then that person will loose more weight from his wallet than from his body.

Forgive me for jumping in here, but that's not necessarily true. Some people have metabolic diseases that won't let them lose weight. And while some of the surgeries are "temporary" if you don't follow regimens afterward (like the lap-band surgery, where people just keep eating and stretch their stomach all over again), some of them are absolutely not, like the gastric bypass. I'm not saying that every person who can't lose weight should go have gastric bypass surgery, but if there is really something wrong with you that you cannot lose weight, and being obese is creating more problems for you, then why shouldn't people consider it? Really, the main cure for even having these problems to begin with is something that would take generations to cure, that being making ourselves genetically more healthy, but given how most people like to live, that's not likely to happen, wouldn't you agree?

Heavens No! Your comments are welcome. I was trying to make a point that healthy food and exercise are the only way to control weight. I have had a gastric by pass due to a disease called Pancreatitis. The after effects are mainly about malnutrition which is very difficult to handle. As you say following a good regimen after the surgery is essential. Otherwise it is a waste of time and energy. Thanks for your comment.

If I was that obese, and nothing else worked, yes. I am insulin resistant, so it's very, very difficult for me to lose weight, but I'm not so fat that I need to be concerned enough to think about surgery. Sure, I could stand to lose 20 lbs, but I will continue to struggle with that, of course. My sister, on the other hand, was extremely obese. She and I both have PCOS. Hers was active; mine is not so active. She got so big, and nothing she did would help. So her doctor approved her for a gastric bypass. It was very hard on her and the recovery was long, maybe months. At first she lost so much weight she got too skinny! But now, it's been about 5 years and she really does look great. However, for people who think it's a miracle cure, it's not! Besides the long recovery period, for the rest of her life she will always have severe dietary limitations and she can only eat small amounts at one time (which of course is more healthy, anyway). Plus, she has to be very careful with eating too much sugar or carbs since both of those cause extreme bloating and pain. So basically, the foods she can safely and comfortably eat have been reduced by about half to what a normal person can eat. I do think that she is happy with this, for the most part, though. I know she doesn't regret doing it... except on those days where she couldn't resist eating something she used to love, and it gives her stomach pains!

I agree shira0524, It think that surgery would be for someone who has tried everything, and still could not loose the weight, In addition, it is dangerous, and the recovery is long. Then as seen on a Discovery program.

It is not good to have the surgery to lose weight. First, it is somewhat risky to have the surgery. Second, it is painful. Third, your weight may be back in a short time since you don't change your habits. Try to lose the weight by the natural way such as doing exercise and healthy diet. It is better than having the surgery. I love China

No, I don't. I would prefer any other alternative like proper diet and exercise.

Nope, no need to try surgery just to lose some weight. I suggest you to try Herbalife. It works for many people around the world so i think it is also effective for you. Send me a private message to talk about it. I will help you.

I'm quite chubby but surgery is not my option if I have to lose weight. Lets pretend that I have all the money in the world, still I wont consider surgery just for vain things as that, I would respect somebody who will do that, its their money and its their choice. But not me, I think there still a side effect with that eventually and unless necessary, perhaps I will reconsider. As long as there is still other options like taking pill or much better exercise and diet, still, I will go for it.

Maybe not. There are many more ways... I'll try those ones out first before slicing my skin with a knife.

No i will not. Beside the fact that it is expensive it is not guaranteed safe. There' no 100% guarantee that surgery will not have it's side effects or that you'll stay in that shape forever. Besides i was able to lose weight by discipline in diet, your food intake and exercise really helps a lot in losing weight. so why spend too much in something not so safe if you can do it safely without even spending.

Not even thinking about it. Aside from that fact that I'm afraid of needles and going under the knife, I don't want to alter what nature has given me. If I have to lose weight I'll do it the natural way.

No, certainly not. I think it will destroy your body - its the worst way to lose weight. Just some weight losing exercises and stuff like that.
