Man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs while a woman will pay $1 for a $2 item

she doesn't need! How far does this sentence apply to you?
I think I have fallen into the trap of items on sale before and have bought some unnecessary stuff but recently I have become smarter and only buy things I absolutely need. Are you the man type or the woman type mentality when buying things?

Hello Bluemoon
What a lovely discussion, and to be honest I had to think about what answer to give you.
Well when I have a financial surplus and dont need to think to much on my finances and such I am likely the woman type, but then in the period where I am unemployed or have a lower income than normal I turn into the man type.
In other words I so-so know my financial limit and if i can afford it. But sometimes I do indeed get home with some unnecessary stuff, which woman dont?

It could indeed be that some women need to exercise more control, Im not perfect in everything but I have never had debts (beside to my parents and current boyfriend) And it is not fortunes of debts I have... maybe a few thousands at the most... and no interest fee :D

My dear, nobody is perfect in everything! One of the most important lesson we should learn in life is not to incur debts. To your parents and bf is ok, just make sure you repay it (without interest too)... :)
Now there are many reports on people defaulting on their credit card payment and these occurrences have become more common, and especially among the young people in their 20s and 30s, it is a scary trend.

hello Downwindz,
So you are the analyzing type? You will assess the situation you are in before deciding what to do.
I read this in one of the forwarded emails and found this to be true to a certain extent. I think maybe women need to exercise more control?

Haha - so the stereotype boils down to: men are cheap and women are EXTRAVAGANT! Mwahaha. Just kidding.
I fall somewhere in between. I am not the typical "woman" shopper (whatever that means). I actually really, really hate shopping, unless I'm in a certain mood (which is rare). I like to get in and get out, although occasionally I'll buy something on impulse. So I guess I'm stuck in between!

oh you like window shopping and not actual shopping? hahaha...just kidding...
It is nice to browse into some interesting shops and see new kinds of innovative products or pretty decorations.

This discussion reminds me of my boyfriends mother where she always says you have to spend to save.
Me I have learned to only buy what I need, a little splurging is quite alright, but when does splurging become too much.
Yes I also agee, that my boyfriend does not look at pricing and I will spend the $1 while he grabs something in plain sight for the identical item for $2.

Absolutely, I am the same way. For some reason in this family money, although they have never had much of it, needs to just be given away.

hahaha, sounds like man's eyes are not so clever or is there something wrong with their heads? hahaha, just kidding...
how to "spend to save", I thought it should be the other way round, "save to spend" and I am trying to do that. Save up a bit and then splurge it on something.

At one time it probably applied to me. If I needed the item then I just bought it quickly and paid no attention to the price. Now though I am a more careful shopper. I check prices as I pass the item in different stores when I'm there for some other purpose. Sometimes I even write the price to see what other places are charging. I want value for my money these days and hate to pay more when I could have paid less. I'm a more wiser shopper these days.

You have become smarter for sure! If time allows, it will be good to compare prices, by asking about the product and more details, it also helps to increase our own knowledge.

hi Hatley,
Sometimes our finances are tight and we cannot afford to make purchases foolishly, we must really do some ground work in comparing prices and do some research.

Nope, I'll pay $1 for a $1 item that I do need, but I'll be really happy if I get a coupon for it and it's less.

There was a time (a LONG time ago....before kids) that I could spent my entire paycheck at the mall in one day. I was young and single so it wasn't a big deal back then. Now, however, I only buy what is needed and even then I am so frugal I could probably write a book about it! LOL I love getting the best bang for my buck and rarely pay full price for anything.

Being married will totally change our lives because instead of one person, we now have to plan for the whole family as well as the future. It is better to be cautious and spend our money wisely. I would love to read your book and learn some tips from it!

I absolutely hate going into stores! And I only do it if I have to. Before I get in, I would already have a mental list of the things I need to buy, so I just get in, and get out. I would like to think of myself as thrifty, but If I really need it, I wouldn't go around wasting my time looking for cheaper versions of it. I wouldn't mind paying $2 for a $1 item if it means I don't have to waste a couple of hours looking for the 99cent version of the item.

that is true!but i am not not that type of person.i don't buy things unnecessary.but i always fall into the trap of buy 2 with less price!because sometimes the real is we don't need that much but we tend to spend for that 2 items for less price.but it is okay for me as i can save budget for the next month shopping.

I think it is a smart thing to do if we really need the item, like toothpaste or shampoo. I mean we have to use that some time and it's ok to stock them up. It depends on how we define what we "need".

I tend to negate the statement. I don't like to pay for an item more money than its value. I'm a man. And it's hard to say what is needed indeed. For example, makeups, for me and most of men, it's totally unnecessary, but what about for women, especially for girls?

I guess it is different perception. Maybe there is something you need, like a high tech IT stuff and you are willing to pay quality money for it.
Cosmetics might be essential for some girls but definitely not for me. I feel that life goes on with or without it.

I am more thrifty than my fiancee for sure but I rarely buy things I do not need. I used to do it when I was younger though, but luckily, you get more clever with time, haha, so I have stopped doing that by now. But in general, I think there may be some truth to that!

I am the woman type mentality. I will pay money for something I don't really need. My husband and I are actually both that way at times, and we are trying not to be. We are stopping our shopping for things we don't need, in fact the only thing we will be purchasing over the next few months is gas, and something for each other on our anniversary. I am not sure we will even buy anything for Christmas.

It might be good to do some planning and discussion first before deciding, that way you won't waste your money and your house would not be cluttered up with things that you may not need at the moment.

Never heard it put quite like this, but I think it's true! Women are usually much more frugal and much better shoppers. Men, I feel, are impatient and just want instant gratification even if they end up paying more for it. Funny! :)

I believe in this.., haha.., because., I am naturally a compulsive buyer.., When I see something I really like.., regardless of the price or if I really need that item.., as long as I can afford that at that instant, I would buy it.., But men.., wouldn't do the same..,=_=

You are really a compulsive shopper. :) But also quite decisive....so if it's something you really need, you don't have to waste time looking for it. I know a friend who is very indecisive and will go back and forth different shops to make comparisons and still can't decide in the end.
