"cannot restore. the device is not eligible fo restore..", i don't know what happen (my itouch 2G 3.1.2).
I have info, it because APPLE made new protection that the upgraded O.S cannot be downgrade and restore. Is that true? do you have the same experience? many people dissapointed with this protection, and what do you think?

You can try putting the ipod into DFU mode then try restoring it. That should make the computer recognize it as new and let you put on whatever firmware you want. For info on putting it into DFU mode go here: http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=566
