What does this man have against gravy?

So Sunday night I made chicken, corn and rice. The chicken was cooked in cream of celery soup to make gravy. Only R and I ate it, and the kids did their own thing. So a while after dinner, after everything had cooled off, I got up to put the food away. I was looking forward to having lots of leftovers to bring for lunch this week. ESPECIALLY THE GRAVY.
Well the chicken had been put away, but not the rice or the corn. So I put both of them in Tupperware, and opened the refrigerator. There was the chicken, also in Tupperware. Didn't look right, so I took a closer look. The chicken was sitting in no more than 2 or 3 tablespoons of gravy. NO GRAVY. He threw away my darn gravy.
Anyway, so here I am, eating my re-heated chicken, rice and corn. Dry rice, I might add, wondering just what the heck he has against gravy. :D
Is there some kind of a genetic predisposition to dislike gravy among some people, do you think?

LOL! Funny man. Maybe he doesn't like the smell of celery that's all. Does he always throw away the gravy even though it's not cooked with celery? For me, I hate things related with celery and parsley and spring onions. I just don't like the smell of it coz it's too strong and smelly at times. I don't know how some people can take a whole bunch of celery, RAW!

The last time he threw away my drippings before I could even MAKE gravy. I think he just has a mental block when it comes to gravy.

hi dawnald oh dear I guess some people do not like gravy but
if thats the c ase why throw it away when your non gravy husband
does not eat left overs. I love the flavor of cream of celery soup
gives to chicken dishes. yum. That sounds like a delicious combo
but alas I am not supposed to eat corn. I have that dumb diverticulitis where you have pouches in your colon, seems things like corn, and fruits with seeds get caught in there. I paid the price for eating black berrries. a week in the hospital bleeding rectally,. four blood transfusions later they decided the seeds had gathered in a little
pouch and had punched a hole in an artery. here I was sick and also anemic before the bleedings. So I have learned the hard way not to
eat things that the doctor said do not eat had best be paid attention to.

Send me your corn, your fruits with seeds, your gravy...
Seriously, that sounds awful. Yeah, I'd stay away from those foods too under those circumstances!

I like gravy provided it has a lot of tomatoes, and chillies and masalas in it. :) My father on the other hand prefers watery stews. We are managing. :) At times he gets away with what he wants, at other times I get away with what I want. :)

Sounds like someone needs their butt kicked! The gravy is like the best part - oh what a waste! If I make gravy, I keep it in a separate container so stuff like rice doesn't absorb it (thus, soggy rice) . . . but sounds like it was just on the chicken . . . so why da heck did he throw it away? Hmmmmmm . . . "who else" could use a thousand fleas from a camel . . .

I can't get my husband to even eat the gravy unless it is with a roast and is brown beef gravy(he only like that it coats the roast but don't really eat the gravy really...and breakfast gravy. Only gravy he will eat fully. I have tried it with mushroom soup but haven't tried celery soup which I have 2 cans of but never used it before in anything..men love doing that sort of thing to us all the time..lol. Mine does that too.

I like it better with mushroom soup, but I used the celery because the kids don't like mushroom.

Hi, dawnald. I don't know what can be his issue with gravy. But I love having gravy over my rice. It makes the rice taste so much better. I cooked some stewed chicken wings last week. I made sure that I had some gravy with it. It was so delicious. That was the first thing that my son wanted when he came home from school, some rice and gravy. I love to have gravy over my rice. My husband loves gravy left over from his chicken. Maybe he does not like the the excess gravy. He thinks that it should be thrown away. But I see it as an great option, especially if the chicken makes some good gravy. I am very sorry that your gravy was thrown out.

My husband did not like gravy either whilst I am a gravy person. It just makes the food taste better. Definitely yummy and brings out the taste of the meat. And who likes dry rice? I would have put butter on it before heating it up. If he knew - I am assuming that he does - that you liked gravy then he may - just may - have done it on purpose. But let's not go there as that makes him sound unkind. So it was probably a mistake. At least I hope so.

I put the remaining gravy on the rice and mixed the corn in, but tomorrow I will need butter.
I think he's just tunnel vision focused on what he likes, and he forgets that everybody else around him has different preferences. He did look, hm well maybe not sorry, maybe more like "I can't do anything right with you" when I mentioned it...

Shame on him! Someone needs to sleep on the couch!! My hubby has been trained to NEVER throw any leftovers away. LOL. We both love gravy and usually there is never any left over to begin with. Sorry you had to have dry rice tonight.

LOL.....pretty much, unless he wants to starve!! No my hubby actually hates leftovers. He used to toss anything that we didn't eat that night. I had to tell him unless he wants to double our grocery bill, he has to save the leftovers. To this day, he rarely will eat leftovers, but he does save them for the rest of us.

Well, it seems he always have a problem with gravy for some reason.
Next time, give him a glass of water with his food, WITHOUT THE GRAVY.
I cannot think why people don't like it at all.
I thought i was full of crap when it came to food.

I don't eat chicken with gravy most of the time
so it's not a big deal to me if there is none
but I do like ketchup or sauce and sometimes it's a big deal to me
if someone throws these away I will be upset
I can imagine eating dry rice without sauce or ketchup sucks :)

I can understand this. My father in law hates gravy and I am sure he may be do something like this. He hates the spices in the gravy and even the vision of the gray prepared may make him irritated and will end up in spoiling his whole day. It will remind him about the hard times he had during his visit to India with lots of spices and curries. He even hesitate to have the masala cashews from India because it reminds him of curry and gravy.
Don't worry sister. Please tell him not to throw it away the next time and you like it and want to have it later. My husband hates one kind of fish curry I make at home. I love that fish curry I want to have it often. He hates the smell of it. He says it stinks, but for me it makes a sea inside my mouth. My husband told me to prepare that curry only when he is out of the house.

Now, that is just wrong. How can he abuse the gravy like that? LOL. Gravy is one of the original ultimate comfort foods. It goes great with almost everything.

Umm, it was nice of him to put away at least some of the food. Seriously though, I love to eat chicken the way that you've described it and when we do have leftovers I put it all together and save it. I've never met a person that doesn't like gravy, but that isn't to say that they don't exist. That said, I would have been mad if someone would have wasted perfectly good food and you definitely needed the gravy to make your leftovers palatable.

Actually, it would have been much more like him to put the chicken in the refrigerator and not cover it. But he actually put it in a tupperware. Not the rice or veggies though. go figger...

Mem I think are not so fund of gravy. They are more on soup. My husband prefer soupy viands than saucy ones. For fried, steamed or broiled viands, my husband prefer dips like vineggrette or soy sauce with vinegar, onion, garlic and ground pepper. Or sometimes, just vinegar with garlic. For fried chicken, just plain catsup (banana or tomato) or thousand island dressing.

My husband will eat almost anything, but he's just not a huge fan of gravy at all.
