Are you stuck?

Don’t you ever get the feeling that you’re stuck? That you’ve been put in a situation where you don’t want to be. Or, living a life you did not chose for yourself. That you want to get out and do something with your life, yet you feel that you’re tied down with certain circumstances.
I surely feel I am. How about you? What is your rock, and your hard place?

Yes, I have definately felt this way before. Usually when I have a lot of housework to do. I don't really feel like I was made for doing house work. I do work from home but I also have the responsibility of doing all the house work because I work at home and don't make as much money as my husband does. I always feel like I should be doing something more with my life. Most of the time I am happy, but once in a while I think that I could have done better in life.

First of all, I'm sorry if this discussion put you down a bit. I didn't mean to. But you are right, once in a while we do feel that we could have done better in life. And like you, my job is one in which I also feel like I am stuck in. I know it I earn from it, and I shouldn't be complaining, but I know that it could be better.
Coulda, woulda, shoulda...
Thanks!

Why is there frustration? If you are doing what you do for your kids or your family , then why are you frustrated? I don't understand.

There have been many times that I have felt "stuck". At this point I kind of feel stuck with my job. I like that I have a job that I have been with for so long but at the same time I feel like there is no other choice sometimes but to work it. I started going back to school last year. That's been tough but I figure if I want I don't want to be stuck anymore, I'm the only one that is going to be able to change it. I suppose my rock is my responsibilities and my hard place is my free spirit..lol..Take care.

Hello JenInTN.
At least you already figured out a way to get yourself 'unstuck' from your situation. I feel the same way about my job, and I also feel like the only way I could get 'unstucked' is also to go back to school. I already did a few years ago, I guess I have to finish it if I want to get somewhere.
Thanks.

I feel like I am as well. I know how it feels. I couldn't go to school this year, because I owe my school $3,000 because I couldn't find a loan that I would be approved for (even with a co-signer). I tried to find a loan to cover last year's tuition, which I am paying off now, but I couldn't. Apparently I have horrible credit, and so does my dad (who reluctantly agreed to co-sign for me). I am also working for a pretty bad hourly rate at this point (but I'm trying to advance). It just feels like I can't move on with my life until I get all of these crazy things paid off. And I have bills too. Four credit cards, car insurance, gas, health insurance, cell phone bill, utilities, etc. I don't pay for rent.. But there's no way I could at this point (I still live with my dad!). So until I square myself out with all of these bills, there's no way that I can afford to pay off that $3,000 go to school. (Well, after last month's payment..I am down to $2,870! woo hoo for progress!).
And in terms of thinking about moving out.. I have NO idea how I could manage to do this, without having a full-time job. And how on earth do you go to school full-time and work full-time too? It just seems like all roads lead back to MONEY. Which is frustrating.
But there's always a way out.. In my slightly optimistic opinion. There has to be!

It is sad that everything has to be about money. That you couldn't go on to what you're supposed to be doing, or starting your life because of money problems. Just like me, it feels as if we're handcuffed because of financial burdens.
But I like your optimism! There has got to be another way. In your case, it might just be a new and stable job. (I know you would have better chance finding that job, if you finish school, viscious cycle ) One step at a time, right?
Goodluck, and I hope you make it!
So, when is $2740? Maybe I should ask this from you month by month until it is all paid off, so I could celebrate with you when it is all done!

I do feel that all the time! First because I am not working and am a homemaker and secondly because I have major health issues which stop me from doing whatever I thought of doing earlier. Even the smallest physical work is difficult for me. I find it difficult to even play with my kid. Back pain and TMJ with fibromyalgia is making my life miserable. I have to struggle to do things which other people take for granted. Even lifting my hand above a certain level is difficult. But then, I am trying to improve my health with proper diet, regular exercise and a calm mind.

Not everything is the way I would want it but I don't have that helpless feeling or mentality. I have the power to change most things that I'm unhappy with. I have choices I can make. I can improve the situation or my attitude about a situation. And I know that there are better things coming because of my strong faith in God.

Hi Ocean! Our strong faith in God goes a long way. Also we have to do our part. I look at the problem and start thinking, what can I do? How can I solve this problem? Who can help me? What are the options? Where there is a will there is a way!

oh yea. Right now my husband is facing criminal theft charges. He copped a plea to pay $750 restitution by sept 28th. I don't believe he took the money but they must have some kind of evidence as the public defender and the cop thought he should take the deal. He is also unable to work at his job until this gets straightened out so we really don't have the money to pay this back right now. I am behind on my student loans and the utilities. So yeah I feel that i am stuck in this situation.

yeah we called the magistrate and he said just bring what we have and then we can make payments i guess. It's only resitution so I guess they are more lienient with that than if it were fines. We're only gonna be able to give them like $50 on Tuesday so I hope that's ok.

Hello eshaan.
It is very interesting that even though your family is into business and politics, which I consider is very forward-looking, most of you still feel stuck. That because of this, you feel you don't meet the simple things of just being together and spending time.
I hope that you also have better days that you and your family can enjoy!

Hi bounce,
I have known that feeling but I was the one who put myself into those kind of spots and when I realize that it isn't what I want for my life then I do whatever it takes to change things up and move on. Sometimes circumstances or a series of them will put us in a bad spot but still it is up to us to work through the obstacles that have been placed in front of us.

You've indicated a not-so-obvious truth about being stuck, sid556. That whatever situation we are in, and no matter how stuck we might feel, the truth is that it us ourselves that put us in this situation. And normal logic could lead us to conclude that it is also within our capacity to get out of it.
It's just that human nature sometimes make it really difficult.

Your response reminds me of the movie 'The Replacements' with Keanu Reeves. When he was asked what he was afraid of, he said quick sand. It's like what you say in here. That no matter what he does, he just keeps on sinking. I would so much hate that helpless feeling.
I hope for you dodo19 that those days are few and far between.

The main thing in my life with which I feel like we are stuck is in debt. We started on a journey a year ago to pay off all of our credit card debt and that is going just fine. However, that doesn't help at all with the medical debt that we are having to deal with as well. I keep thinking that one day this will all be past us, but for right now it isn't something that is happening and it really stresses me out at times.

Same boat here dorann. It feels like whatever I do, I still end up in the same place. I keep cutting expenses, and yet I still have the same bills over and over again. Uggh!
Yes I hope that this will all come to pass.
I saw the USA front page today, and it said that the recession is/was over. I do hope it gets better soon.

Yes, I do feel like this sometimes. I am happy with my work and career. However, I do not consider myself as financially well-off because I am helping with the expenses in our family. I help finance the education of my brother and pay for utility bills. A lot of my friends thought that I am earning lots of money. Well, it's true, I earn a lot from my profession. But I am also unable to save because of the many expenses.
That's why I feel stuck sometimes, stuck with responsibilities. I have to pay for what I consider as my financial responsibilities as a breadwinner, before enjoying the money that I earned. Sometimes I wish I can splurge and travel, but there's always too much to consider. Sometimes I wish I can be debt-free, and yet I continue to use my credit card so that I wouldn't run out of cash until the next payday. My only consolation is, I know it's not forever. Just until my brother has finished his studies and can finally earn money of his own. :)

You've had a lot of growing up to do arystine in just a few months. And I know that you've inherited a lot of responsibilities too, which helps contribute to the feeling of being stuck.
Being the responsible daughter, and knowing 'our' culture, I know that it is always expected that we take on this responsibility without question. So, I emphatize with you.
Thankfully, you have a finish line in sight. Hold your breath, in the meantime...

I have definitely felt like this for the pass few months. But yesterday something happen to cause me to want to make some changes in my life. I started making the changes yesterday. I must admit it's a little scary. I can do this by taking it one day at a time.

You are already ahead of the curve, bluidkiti!
You've already recognized that you are stuck and you've already made a conscious effort to decide and do something about it. Good on you!
And since this comment of mine is already a few days old, I hope that you are still on your way in making that chage. Goodluck!

Hi bounce, I am still working on making some changes all the way around. It is still scary but with God's help and others help I can do this. I just have to take it a day at a time and make the changes one thing at a time. How are you doing?

Yes.. currently i feel that i am stucked in the situation - i am not stuck at work anymore, i am leaving soon and i filed my resignation, but i feel that i am stucked in the situation of not being able to move as i like because every move you make everywhere in the world, you need money...
i am not sure if it is only me, or even others experience this too...

Sometimes, yes I do. Back when I was in my 20's I was a complete wild child, partying with the bands, going out every night. Now I have a mortgage, bills. Not that I don't love what I have but sometimes I miss those days. I think I've turned boring. I'd love to have that again, just for the excitment

I think that becomes inevitable, that we become boring when we get stuck. I couldn't count how many times people around me have called me boring. I want to have excitement, I do want to reach out to the days when I was still young, it's just that the current circumstances does not allow me to.

I have been stuck in a bad situation before, I tried very hard to get out of it but didn't really succeed. I think I didn't tried hard enough or I wasn't determined enough. Later I decided to seek help and now I was out of it, I kept thinking I was quite stupid to have tolerated it for so long, should have done something long ago. Now my realization is, we can change anything, as long as we wanted to. Motivation is very important.

You've just highlighted a couple of things that might just be needed to get out of whatever situation that we feel stuck in -help and motivation. I guess that when you don't have one or the other, you might just end up being stuck in a situation for more than it should.
Thanks for the response.

Been there a couple of weeks ago. :) It's when I got bored doing the same routine everyday, and I got fed up. One day I asked myself, is this really the kind of life that I want to live? It's as if I'm not growing as a person. But then I also reflected that, I chose this kind of life and it's where my family is. So why complain. Luckily, I have discovered myLot. So now, I have a way to release some of my pent-up emotions.

It would be easier when you're still younger. When you can change your circumstances, or when you can say that you chose the circumstances that you're in. Unfortunately, some of us never wanted to be in this position in the first place.
And yes, thanks to myLot, it is indeed an avenue for release.
