Hi there,
Recently I am really extremely busy studying and doing some freelance work. As such, little time was left for sleep.
I realised that I became quite irritable at small things. Throwing temper at my slightest unhappiness.
Furthermore, I am sleepy throughout the whole day and became even more unproductive. Caffine intake has increased.
Although I keep telling myself to relax and not to take it out on the people around me, I seems to do it with little success.
What are your views? Do you throw temper easily when you don't have enough sleep?

I always get really grumpy if I don't get proper sleep.
There was a time a couple of years ago in which I was under a lot stress and had a lot of trouble sleeping. After 4-5 days with horrible lack of proper sleep, I felt really irritable and I'd get annoyed at pretty much everything... it also triggered a big panic attack (well, that and all the stress) and I kept feeling kinda bad for the following days. Fortunately things settled down and I was able to sleep again properly :)

Me too, getting grumpy when I am sleepy. You mean because of your stress you were not able to get proper sleep? As in you tired sleeping but can't go to sleep or you have to much things to do?
I'm glad things have settle down for you !

More or less, yeah... I was feeling very anxious and stressed so I hard a really hard time falling asleep, my body was all tired but my mind would just refuse to go to sleep, so to speak. It was quite troublesome.
Thanks! Fortunately I sleep much better nowadays :)

we have same situation. I only have 5-6 hours sleep because of my Job. i also noticed that i can easily get irritate at small things. i become angry even with my brother or sister. i think if you have a week without enough sleep. some of your system might function less than expected.

Wow, I can't imagine going without sleep for a week. I don't think I will be able to do anything at that period. Have you gone without sleep for a whole week? My most was 2 days straight and I couldn't take it already.
Because I am having lesser sleep, I become angry with my boyfriend too, throwing temper at little things! But, we should really cherish them.

Definitely. Having little sleep takes a toll on our body and our health will be affected. Not only irritable but we could also die earlier if this goes on. This was stated by an expert. If we don't sleep early, our bodies won't be able to produce enough hormones and those cells needed to keep us strong and our immunity will become weakened as a result of that.

We'll die earlier if this goes on? Wow, thanks for your information. You have given me much reason to have more sleep! Thanks

I do get moody when I don't get enough sleep. I guess it's one of those things that we never grow out of. My son definitely gets grouchy when he doesn't get enough sleep. Good luck with your many things. Try to take some time to yourself to relax and recharge.

Yep, there are some things that we never grow out of no matter how much we try to avoid that.
You are right, I should take some time away from my work and studies to relax and recharge. I believe it would really refresh me.

When we don't get enough sleep, it caan make us disagreeable. Tempers can become very short. Our bodies require certain amounts of sleep to help us function in an orderly way. When that is disrupted, we can be hard to cope with.

I have read somewhere that the best time to sleep is from 11pm-3am, which is the golden period. This is the period where our body recharges the most!

The lack of sleep can really do some weird things to our mind to say the least. If we are not able to sleep, we are really not able to function as well as we could. Therefore, the littlest things in the world is just going to set me off. For right or for wrong, it is just going to happen. It is not the best thing in the world to snap at people from these things.
It is wrong to say the least. Therefore, I try and get as much sleep as I know that I need to function. There are many times where I am glad that I had sleep, because it was able to push me through some really frustrating times. If I did not have that time that I sleep, it was going to be a rough road and I am going to start snapping on everyone. So yes, many temper tantrums are thrown without sleep.

Yes, without sleep, we get very irritated easily. No matter how much we tell ourselves to control them, to suppress it. Because our brain feels really tired, doing everything seems to be a chore.
You are right, when we have enough sleep, it will push us through a tough road!

Stress can certainly make one behave weirdly, short tempered, wrong thinking, wrong decision, quarreling, and so on. That can happen to everyone. Stress can be from lack of sleep, over-burdened, overwork, lack of relaxation. Yes, it is important to be cognizant of ones feelings and behaviours in time, to be able to control in time.

Yes, a lack of sleep increases stress level, making one behave weirdly. Apart from not having enough sleep, I believe that I have a lack of relaxation as well which make me all the more short tempered.
Thank you for your reminder.

I think that there are alot of people out there that get short tempered due to lack of sleep.I think that some people can be ok with hardly no sleep, yet there are other people that can not handle hardly getting any sleep.I do not get alot of sleep as there are children in my house that do not go to sleep until early hours of the morning.

Yes, there are indeed variations to how people behave when they have a lack of sleep. For me, I seem to be irritated and get mad at the slightest thing.
I really do admire Moms as they have to juggle so many things. Wow, you don't sleep until the early hours of the morning. I am interested in how you actually manage doing other things?
But I believe that your children do give you some energy. No matter how tired you are, looking at them will make your day!

It is really very bad. So are you doing anything to try and get more sleep?

I also have experience having a lot of work, so many stress, and so little time to sleep. And yes, I also become irritable but I really don't show it. I get annoyed with little things, but I just let it pass. I don't make big deal out things, that's why I'm still able to function normally. I just can't shake off the feeling of irritation though.
Anyway, even though we get irritated, we should always watch what we're saying and be careful not to throw tantrums. Everybody get's stressed out. And lacking sleep doesn't exactly give you a valid reason to lash out on somebody. Discourtesy is still discourtesy full sleep or lacking.

Yes, having a lack of sleep don't give me a valid reason to lash out on others. Thank you for your reminder. I really need to take a check on my behaviour. There is no one to blame for my lack of sleep except myself.
I will learn from you, to just let things pass. No one owe us anything.
Thanks for your advice.

I totally agree with you. It is really hard to control sometimes. I keep telling myself that I should not get angry at the slightest thing and end up making everyone unhappy.
We need to learn to control our emotion and not let it get the better of us. Let's work towards that!

Yes,I'm the same you. Keep you're healthy. I think you should arrange your works in order that you can sleep enough everyday. If not, you can't work in the next time.

You are right, I would arrange my work in order so I have the time to sleep. I have tried setting a time table for myself everyday, but it seems that I am unable to keep to it.
I must keep myself healthy as well. Doing some exercise would at the same time relaxes me.

At first, I'm still my old self. But, when I was into studying and working at the same time, I became irritable and sometimes, short tempered. There was no way I could get a straight 8 hour sleep because of my schedule. Then, I put in a 2 hour table tennis game just after work. I noticed that when I slept, even for only a few hours, it was a very good, relaxing sleep. And so too, my irritability was minimized, almost gone. I also put green posters in my room. That way, when my eyes get tired while studying, it gave me a relaxing feeling.

Working and studying can really drain's all of one's energy. You still set aside time for exercise. Perhaps I should try exercising too.
I have been wanting to run since about 3-4 years ago. But I kept procrastinating. Your comments really strike me. I should try exercising to relive my stress and like what you say, when we have a good sleep, we'll actually feel more energized.
