I haven't heard about Oprah's campaign yet. But I think that it's dangerous when we write text or calling while we're driving.

I have heard of Oprah's campaign and I agree with you. It is very dangerous and sometimes fatal to text while driving. People who do this, is never thinking that an accident caused by texting could happen to them.

People won't realize until it happened to them..I know it's bad to wish them like that but for a lesson in that way maybe more lives can be save in the future..!

Yeah it's just how people think, not knowing their real danger. You shouldn't wish that it would happen to them, because it doesn't really solve anything, but I totally understand what you mean! :) And it is good that you are okay.

It is very dangerous to write a text message whilst driving. The full attention must be on the road and its conditions and not a mobile phone. Such an action might cause an accident. The car could crash or run someone over. I haven't yet heard of Oprah's campaign.

Hi. inday_lorna1970. I have not heard about Oprah's campaign yet. I see many people texting while driving. It is never safe to do this. All the laws and warnings that is passed and given means nothing. People will just do what they want to do, it does not matter at all. If people will just follow the rules, then less accidents will happen. I will never text while I am driving. This is a big no no. If I have to text, I will just pull my car over and text. Or I may stand somewhere on a flat and private spot and text. People really need to start taking heed to the dangers of texting while driving. I am glad that you was not hurt in any kind of way while passing this car. Take care! And stay safe as much as possible!

It's good to hear you do that way perhaps if people will do the same there will be less accidents not only on people but on animals too.

Hello inday.... No I havent heard about Oprah's Campaign, maybe because Oprah is first broadcasted here weeks later than when the show was on the US tellys... I have once actually been in a car accident because the driver was SMSing... My oppinion is that an SMS is not more important than it can wait until you have finished driving, else they would call you :)

Inday, that is basically also what im saying :) I do though if my phone rings, take the phone and say hang on, I need to park the car first - People ring if it is important (a presumption) where if it is an SMS it is not that important, so it can wait until I have time.

my opinion is..why can't they park in a safe allowed road side to park to do that texting or calling instead of hitting or killing somebody else.??

As drivers, we should be conscious not only of our own safety but also that of the pedestrians and our fellow drivers. It is a common knowledge now that texting while driving can divert our attention and lessens our focus on the road, thus, increasing the risk of vehicular accidents. Driving while texting distracts our attention and this poses a threat not only to our safety but also to other "road-users." A split-second of false maneuver can cost us our lives or the lives of other people. Not to mention the damage to properties resulting thereto. In our place, we have a local ordinance prohibiting drivers from making calls and texting while driving. Aside from the strict implementation of the traffic rules on wearing seat belts when driving, traffic enforcers are also now keen on imposing penalties for those who are caught using their cellphones while driving. These are simple "road etiquette" which all drivers must observe wherever they may be. The bottomline is we that we should all be responsible drivers and must exercise self-restraint when it comes to driving and texting. It is just a matter of discipline and respect to life and property. I hope that driver can read our posts here. hehehe. I am glad that driver did not hit you.

Yeah I will find that driver since I have his plate card number and ask him to join mylot so he will understand and learn the risk of driving while texting.

Yeah Right! Good for you! Getting his plate number is a wise thing to do. You can report him to the proper authorities so that his attention will be called and somehow deter him again from driving recklessly again. :D

I'm surprised it's legal. in the UK it's only legal to use a mobile phone while driving if you're using a hands free kit, and texting is definitely out. it's just such a bad idea.

I know in some states that texting while driving is prohibited but I don't understand why it's not observe here. maybe I need to take first step to go to the license branch and file a complain about this.

That is one of my pet peeves, people who drive and text at the same time. I always show my irritation with this kind of behavior. I try to be a responsible driver and pedestrian, but there are just those people who believe that they are so superior that they multitask. I am all for multitasking, but there are just some tasks that cannot be done together. Texting and driving is one of them.
