The only people who prefer "both" are people who have an open choice of living in either place. That way they do not have to face the difficulties of either.
There is a world of difference between a first-world life and a third-world life. The only way to ignore it is by tying a third-world-patriot blindfold over your eyes.
Both countries have problems, but if you are poor, then there are more chances of success in the US. Unlike India where you need money for the smallest thing you want to do and everyone wants you to mortgage something.
Just take a look at education loans if you dare. Anyone living in the US can educate their kids (or any kid in the world) to study anywhere in the world without having to mortgage anything. Try sending your kids to study abroad while being an Indian citizen with no US contacts. They will mortgage the living hell out of you.

And, the people who keep "missing" India are only those who are too stubborn to accept the sudden change in the society that surrounds them. It is no different from the feeling you get when you move from south india to north india (or vice versa). The culture shock has nothing to do with India being better.

It depends at which part of the country that u choose to live. Both has their own specialties.
