With the development of tourism, we have got more chances to travel around different countries. These years I have travel some other counties and experience different cultures.I find that some people follow local customs and behaviour strictly while some people disagree and think that the host country should welcome cultural differences. What do you think about it?My lotters, please give me your own opinion.

I believe that as a visitor, we should have total respect for the local custom and traditions of our host country. It is enough that they welcome us and not close their doors like some countries do. There is this saying that goes, "When you're in Rome, do what the Romans do" and I think that saying wasn't made for nothing. Not to mention, some customs of these countries might be laws in their land.
It is much the same as when you visit another person's house. We should respect their house rules. Imagine, entering somebody's house with your shoes on when all the rest of the household leave theirs outside. Being a good host, they might not complain, but do you think they feel good about your visit?

i think that if you are on a foreign country, you should follow their local customs. this way, you experience the country the way the citizens do and would get more of the feel of the country. i also think that the saying 'ignorance of the law excuses no one' applies a little to this. like say, if something is taboo in that country's culture and if you did it without knowing that it would be wrong, saying that you didn't know about it won't excuse you. an honest mistake, of course, but not a plausible excuse. i guess it's because for me, when you go to a different country, you should at least know some, or even just the popular ones, customs.

hi noodleboy....My opinion is that if people are visiting another country then they should adhere to their rules and customs..they are visitors in that country and so should do their best to respect the customs and lifestyle of the people who live within that country. Surely part of the enjoyment of visiting another country is to see the different lifestyles and customs and learn from that..and most of all respect it. Of course there will always be cultural differences but if you are a visitor in another country you must abide by their rules and guidelines.
