What would you do with a dress made of duct tape?

Evidently duct tape was a category for fair entries at the state fair this year. There were pursed and pants, and even a dress made from duct tape. Not your old fashioned duct tape, mind you, but colorful stuff. I want to know where they found the plaid duct tape they made a purse out of. I just wonder at the time and energy consumed making clothes from duct tape. I could see a safety vest, perhaps, and the purse and other accessories were useful. But who would wear a duct tape dress?

hi GardenGerty nope not me I sweat too much and just i magine if all the duct tape would get warm and come apart when I perspire thus leaving me totally embarrassed and I mean that in both senses as I am sure ones rear would be soon undraped too. no think it 'would get too warm and fall all apart.

I'd give it to Lady Gaga. I'm sure she would put a duct tape dress to a way better use than I could.

Sorry GG, this is not for me, and I wouldn't wear it at all. What would I do with it?..probably wrap it around my water tank in the winter to keep it from freezing, lol! I'm probably going to get killed here but I don't like it. I think the other stuff you mentioned might be kind of cute and different, but this dress is no style for me, ugh. I guess the younger generation would appreciate it more than I do.

I have seen in magazines where they had contests to make prom dresses out of just the gray/silver duct tape. I got the feeling that this was more like a costume. Made me think of Snow White, actually.

Almost bought Zebra patterned duct tape from Michaels(a craft shop) but I didn't know what to do with it at the time, now I know that I can buy it to make a dress, next time I am in a city with a big craft store... Cheers.

Be sure to post a picture when you do. It would also be neat on notebooks as trim, to make them more unique.

I don't think I'd like duct tape close to my skin @GardenGerty but as a hand bag maybe.

While I do have to say some of the designs are clever, I would never wear a duct tape dress (or anything else for that matter lol) I'd like to know too where they get the colorful and patterened duct tape, I have never seen that before. The only place I could ever see a dress, or accessories, like that being worn would be at a pipe-fitters convention, or maybe a heating and air-conditioning meeting. That is the only place where it might actually be a beneficial novelty.

I am amazed that I neglected my responses here. Our local Wal Mart now has at times some creative duct tape. I have also seen some at Hobby Lobby and someone else said Michaels. Both are craft stores.

I think it was very well made and if the style was different, I might wear it..:) That took some creativity to come up with something like that, was this part of a 4-H project? Because I can see some girls who was in my neighbors 4-H do something like this..

Oh, here is a photo of Alicia Silverstone wearing the classic color of duct tape (silver): http://www.freakingnews.com/pictures/31000/Alicia-Silverstone-Duct-Tape-Dress--31221.jpg This one is pretty fancy with the silver roses and all, but egads, her shoes do not match. Now I just happen to have a pair of shoes that would look great with that outfit. http://www.freakingnews.com/Duct-Tape-People-Pictures--1575.asp

Late on this discussion. I am seeing more and more creative and colorful duct tape, in Wal Mart and craft stores both. I have seen prom dresses made from it.

Well I do not think I could really see myself wearing a duct tape dress of any sort.... I do believe that in large cities where clubbing is popular I am sure you would find several of the younger crowd wearing them in the evening time. I think it is a neat idea. Duct tape is marveled at for its ease of use and its durability. I am quite surprised at all of the different colors that are available these days. I think it is very imaginative and creative! Now you have me interested in duct tape fashion and I will have to do a search! LOL!

I have gotten emails with pictures of gowns and tuxedos made out of duct tape. Some of them were so creative! Certainly one of a kind. I would imagine that larger craft stores might have different colors and patterns of duct tape. When gowns, which are mostly worn one time only cost hundreds of dollars (or more), spending $100 or so on tape becomes a bargain, don't you think? At least you don't have to worry about seeing some one else with the same dress. And another plus. You can save a bundle on 'body waxing'.

How about giving it to women police officers, with suitable fluorescent colors of course. In many police forces, the women's uniform is not very feminine.

Uniforms are often just that, uniform. The fluorescent colors are great for any safety application to make sure people are seen.

Personally I love duct tape. I think duct tape ranks right up there WD40, eletrical tape, bacon, and some of the other finer things in life. My PBS favorite show and hero is "Red Green". He is the leader in innovative ideas for duct tape. Would I wear a dress made out of duct tape? Well, being a fellow myself I would have to say absolutely not. What about a pair of pants you may ask? Knowing the multiple properties of duct tape, I bet it would make for some long lasting rain gear. I have used duct tape in a number projects and ideas. Clothes? why not.... each their own and I am sure at auction, there is someone one out there who would pay handsome penny for a designer one of kind original.

Well I seen the picture, but that could lead to a very sticky situation if things got to heated..which then everything would start falling apart. I'm surprised they didn't try to make a wedding dress with some of that white duct tape..lol then tape hole or design punchers to make it lacy like in areas to make designs.. be alot cheaper then what dresses cost nowadays.lol..I could see that for a crafty person. I bet they had some innovative ideas to use that duct tape...

Quite interesting... A Dress made out of Duct tape. Never seen that before. Not sure it would even be something I would want to consider. I have seen purses made out of it, and even know someone in this area who sells ones she makes. They are quite interesting looking, but not sure I would have the time or talent to want to learn. But now a days, I think they can make anything almost out of anything so makes you wonder what next?

Covering furnitture would be interesting. OK, cats, now try to tear up this! But if I sat on it a long time, I still would like some material that breaths or I could have problems.

Keep on showing the duct tape dress at fairs with winning prizes. It will surely be awarded some prize very often. Or sell it by putting the dress up in auction!

With the way the economy is going I may just have to resort to wearing duct-taped pieces. Okay now that I have halted my laughing for a minute. I suppose a trend setting type person thought this was a fad they would wear them in a flash. If I don't do what I see, like oh my God I would not be hip - This is what your discussion topic reminds me of.
