does it ever happen to you? your sitting at a red light and it finally turns green. do you start off right away? I hate when it turns green and the one behind starts sitting on their horn, all the more I just sit there...Mom and Dad always said to not start off right away in case somone is going through the red light...what do you do?

When the light turns green check my mirrors and if all is well I go straight away. I know that some lights don't stay green for long. If I dither around then the drivers in the cars behind me might get annoyed with me. Sometimes a driver might go bib bib on their horn. In my home country drivers usually stop when the red light is shown. The way I have learned to drive it is mirror, signal and then move for me. I passed my practical driving test earlier this year. I have a car and I drive it very often. My local area has plenty of traffic lights.

I come from the United Kingdom. We have the Highway Code. Drivers have to pass a theory test, hazard perception test and a practical driving test. Drivers drive around safely and stop when the red light shows. A country like Australia also has responsible drivers but in South Africa they have many road accidents which is very sad. I noticed in Malaysia and Indonesia some very crazy driving.

Hi. gjax57. I know that it has happen many times when my husband was driving. He will be daydreaming or talking and he will sit in the middle of traffic while the light is green. Someone may just honk their horn to get his attention. It is very annoying when they do so. Sometimes people are so impatient. When the light turns green, I slowly move forward, leaving enough of space just in case someone may have to turn in front of me. When their is traffic that is coming from the other side of the street, I will let them go first then I will go next.

I personally hate people just sitting there after the light has turned green. I like it better when they start right away, but there is that safety issue. I start off right away. There is a chance of someone still speeding, but not likely as there is some time when both sets of lights are red (5 sec.) before turning green.

No I do not go right away when the light turns green. I was told a long time ago by a policeman that like a stop sign its best to use the five second rule. Wait five seconds then look both ways before going. It has helped alot over the years as if I did not wait five seconds I would of been hit by a car trying to beat the red light.
