Have you ever wished you were a nun or priest?

This morning I got an email from my best friend in high school. Her family is against her marrying her lover. Also, she never gets along with her future sister-in-law and this girl is brainwashing the guy's parents saying bad things about my friend. So, she told me she wish she were a nun. While going through different situations in life, have you ever wished you were a nun or priest and be peaceful being away from the family responsiblities and issues?

Never ever. I would not want to be an abusive, child molesting priest ever. Reading the bible everyday, brainwashing thousands, nope, none of that for me, thank you.

It seems like you are very clear about what you are saying. Yes, I am also sad and irritated about the problems of child molesting. I read in the news even today about child molesting in Belgium. That is very sad. I would like to read the bible everyday, but I will never end up in doing harm to anybody and bible is against that. It is sad to see that many people are going out or being away from the church due to these problems.

Nah, the bible is just a bunch of useless words. It should be summed up to say just be nice and treat everyone the same. The main idea is the point, not the words. Somewhere along the line people have twisted the idea to their advantages.

One should be firm enough to withstand any such storms of life. Becoming a nun or a priest alone won't solve the problems of life. Face it in which ever position you are. There are so many responsibilities to shoulder in life.

You are right, but I think you have very little responsibilities as a nun or priest. You only have to take care of god and please god. Even if you get bored of a church or the people belonging to the church in a particuar place, you can ask for a transfer and you can be with new people. But, if you are married and has a family, you can't run away from the family responsibilities.

No, never! Hiding myself from the world has never been a desire of mine. I like people. And I don't think their lives are any better than the lives of average people on the street. Looks like your friend's relationship is of to a bad start.

Hiding from the world is not a good idea, but sometimes people like to hide from the world and try to create a small world among themselves. I think it is normal that sometimes people try to be along and try to think they would not have been gone through difficult situations in relationships and family if they were nun or priest. If you were a nun or priest there is only god and that person and there is no need to worry about other realities of a normal life/person.
