I joined last June, been going for about 14 months now, over the past year I have droped just about 60 lbs now. They have a great facility here where I live, friendly people. My goal is to get to my 10th grade weight of 210 by my 41st b-day, currently at 217, 41st is Sept 19th, dont think I will get that 210, but will be close, and I will keep going, once I get 210, my next goal will be to get to 190. When I started out the main goal was to get off perscriptions, then I figured I could set a weight goal also. I did not stress about the weight at first, my thought was do little changes at a time, as it was life changing and you can not do it all at once and succeed. I did not get this way over night, so I could not expect to reverse it over night. I started by doing just 30 minutes of treadmill and every now and then some weights, where now I do weights 4 times a week and 1 full hour of intense cardio, 30 min on treadmill and 33 min on this machine called AMT by Precore.
Anybody else have a YMCA story?

I wish I did. I joined the YMCA in my area a few years back but did not have such a positive experience. I love swimming but the pool there was so tiny you could barely stand in it. There was so much chlorine in the water I could feel it burning my skin. I used it once for about 5 minutes and never used it again. The members were not at all friendly and were often rude. I soon dropped away. Since then they relocated just up the street from me but I never went back. We do have a community olympic sized pool here in the city, a had a membership there as well, but it was very expensive and not very friendly either. At the time I was very busy with a career change and did not have much time for anything else and found I was paying for a membership that I was hardly using, so I canceled my membership. But I commend you! You are doing so well to have lost the weight! Weight loss is not an easy journey. Good for you! :)

You only missed your goal by 6 lbs that's really good. You should be really proud. You shouldn't be disappointed, you have done really well. Good luck to you I'm sure you will make your next goal. :)

Yeah, I am sure it depends on the area.. where I live folks still wave to each other going down the street, it is really nice compared to where I lived in San Fran Bay Area, not to give the bay area a bad rap, it was not real bad when I moved out of California in Dec 1999 right before Y2K.. gone way down hill in the past 10 years.. I just love where I live now.. wife is from Canada and she loves it here too.. very happy that we found such a great place to be. I wish there were more community type fitness centers, they are such a great value for all the folks who live in the communities that have one.
No need throwing your money away if you are not able to get there.. Thanks for the compliments.. yeah I missed my goal of 210, I am at 216, I was a little dissapointed earlier today.. I almost did not go to the Y today, but then I told myself, no get your rear in gear and go, this is not the time to have a break or relax or have self I feel sorry for msyelf party.. this is the time to kick it up and get going so you can get to this goal and then start to work on the next one. My next goal is to get to 190 by next June, little more leeway, we have plans to go on a cruise for our 10 year anniversary.. I do not even know when I weighed under 200 lbs.. that is how long it has been.. I would like to do a 5k run next year too.

I have a home membership...
I bought my exerplay 200 last October, I was not big at all I just wanted to do something about gaining better health. It cost me $300. But I own it.
I jump on my bike, which is really not stationary though. It has a console on it, with Jillian Michaels voice. Her voice controls the peddles, so there is not cheating. She recommends you use 1/2 hours 7 days a week, so I watch TV or you can plug in your i pod or play games on the console.
So I began doing it for one hour for 5 days. You will be surprised while watching TV how fast that goes. In 4 1/2 months, I was eating 4 -5 times a day and for the first time drinking water. I drink almost a gallon a day. I am happy to tell you that I lost 60 pounds and am the healthiest and skinniest I have ever been. Now I only use it 1/2 for 3 days for cardio.
So the moral is discipline..

I would have wanted to join but sadly the location of YMCA in our area is quite far. It would really be a hassle if I go there just for the exercise. So instead of joining, I just do exercise on my own. Well, best of luck to you and may you continue your healthy activity.

Yeah sometimes they are not close enough to make it worth it.. if you have to drive too far you will not go often enough to make it worth the fees. But that is good that you are doing exercise on your own.. and thanks.. lets keep active.. more output vs input.. thats what it is about..

hi, i'm not a member and i haven't tried any community fitness program or gym membership. i have succeeded once losing 35 lbs on my own. but now i have gained weight again due to a sedentary lifestyle (home-based job). maybe i'll try membership coz it's a good way to stay motivated. congrats on your weight loss success. cheers!
