No - I am definitely not looking at Australia, Europe, South Africa, America, Canada, etc. So you all can release a sigh of relief. :)
I want a world with lot of greenery and natural beauty but no snakes and scorpions, and cost of living that doesnt gallop, and no risks from maoists, terrorists, separatists, whichever "ists". Want to get up in the morning and look at the sun, feel fresh air, watch the birds, and not end up looking at the undergarments of some neighbor across the road, hanging on clothes line.
My wants are few, hopefully Internet is around and some medication too (I am old :)). So is your part of the world this peaceful, and cost of living lower than ours, and would we be welcome in your part of the world? :)

Lets pack up and move to Antarctic or the Arctic. On the television,(Discovery Channel), I had seen that these are good places with very limited inhabitants and mostly for scientific research which implies - we can have internet, medicines. Yeah, the sun would be there but I have heard that it is just for 6 months a year so that might be some problems. As for birds - Pengiuns? Maybe some more of their kind.
Food - Of course, there would be Packaged or imported canned food. Neighbors... I think none across miles...
The "ists"... yes, scientists, archaeologists (the good people in that clan of ists).
What Do you Think? Should I start packing too? Oh yes, once you are settled there and happy, I can return back here and send you the supplies (in case you need them fresh (ref. food issues above and also include others if you need anything).
Regards,
Sids.

Don't u try to consider the impossibilities living across the antartica or artic?
Food for living??? Do u know what will be the cost of living? Who is gonna open a grocery store there?
Scientists live there for some research and not for entertainment..
Where d you find trees for green sight?
how could i watch a movie in a cinema theater?
Where would i get a ground to play cricket and football?

I watch movies in theaters.....
I wonder what could be the price of broadband in some where in antartica to lay the cables for internet..Don't speak u carry wireless, nobody will supply u the signal..
It's getting very tough to get broadband in villages where it's very costly to implement the cables...
Regarding the electric current...R= V\I...i don't know who is gonna construct a sub transformer for a single phase two wire system to produce current in antartica?

Thats what I mentioned above... It is a place with - very limited inhabitants and mostly for scientific research. People of those kind dont play cricket or football. And as they are there this implies that the supplies for living are also available, yes, may not be in the form of grocery shops. Agreed.
Also, who watches movies at the theaters anymore when we have internet and computers! And I replied as per what was asked in the main discussion...
I admit living there is not as easy as it is in India or anywhere else!

Politics, vultures in the society, opportunists, cheaters, undergarments on the hanging rope are all unavoidable compulsions in our society. Even if you form your own world in the outskirts of the city, soon it will be invaded by all these unwanted things. So see your world in your dream.

That sounds so fatalistic... :( I think I can get away from the news, away from television, isolate myself from everybody except whatever is essential... I think that is possible. :) But my father wants it all ... all politics, and high drama and anger that goes with it. :(

hi vandy if you remember I am in Southern California where the freeways have bu mper to bumper traffic and we do have some smog. But the city of Tustin where I had to move from when my son and I were evicted from our apartment is a beautiful place. flowering trees line the street and in that apt we had were gardens and green grass and a ton of birds that lived in all the trees. the landscaping was gorgeous and all those great trees, too bad the apartments themselves were so crumby and rundown.the cost of living here is just plain out of control while the economy is shot. My son is now working but there are still so many \out of work. Some spots of Southern california are peaceful and beautiful but it costs an arm and a leg to live in those parts. My home state South Dakota has all of what you are looking for but the winters are very cold with tons of snow. Songbirds galore, no smogh few p eople, and the Black Hills oh those black hills with spruce and pine and douglas fur tree, loads of creeks and water falls, and caves with gorgeous stalagites and stalagmites. its a great state for peaceful living. You would be welcome in Tustin or in my home state too.

If only you were a bit younger, I would ask you to travel on flight, and come and stay with me. :) Or we could go to that Isle in Ireland. :) You are very sweet Hatley when you invite me over to your country. But I guess, Hollywood has given me an overdose. It doesn't interest me anymore. May be, I can check up something about Montana, and South Dakota. If it gets too cold, you will have problem, isn't it my lady? :(

Hi Sidoghosh, a person can tackle only a given number of problems in lifetime. Surely I cant be fighting for everything or correcting everything? I can concentrate on few things, and solve them to the best of my abilities. Each one of us has our own set of problems. For those who have had enough, it is ok for them to want to "running away" as you put it. :)

Well, I have never been to India (I think that is where you are), but I certainly have nothing against it. So, I will graciously accept your decision.
Have a great day.

Hi vandana7, I feel content to live in this small village. It's just 5 km or so away from the busy downtown area. Although it is not as flourishing as the town area it's quite peaceful. Only a few buildings with three floors tall are available here. We won't have any chance to see tall buildings with various flags (clothes) hanging outside the windows like what I have seen in the tall buildings in many uptown areas. People here won't hang the indecent looking undergarments across the road for sure.
I love the place where I live with all the basic facilities supplied. Since I'm living in a wonderland which is perfect completely, we still feel annoyed when a few ignorant persons burning trash like plastic containers and bags which might give toxic smoke harmful to our health. Another insufficiency is the interruption of internet service after heavy rain occasionally. We have two private clinic and a government clinic available here. We could get various types of delicious foods, vegetables, meats and daily commodity from the morning wet market here
Happy posting

Exactly the kind of world I want. I can put up with interruption of internet services as I am already accustomed to that. :) I wish I could stay there. :) Any immigration issues with an old Indian wanting to shift there? How much would be the rentals, and cost of living? :)

I think, u should be more specific regarding this topic..
Because our govt is pretty strong , although there is a lot indifference between the various political parties, but who ever catches the govt rules well..
That is the greatest thing in the south..
Before blaming the country, i think u should consider yourself first, why do u wanna beat us? We are united, though we have a wide diversity, we are united by the name of the country... The country is common...I know what happened with the UPSC exams there..
I heard from various guys that guys over there are beating the guys who speak tamil..
They told, we don't have jobs here and why do u come here?
We don't do anything .. We are good...We always respect our guest and make them comfortable while they stay in our land..
But i feel things are indifferent there..
I met a guy who speaks ur regional language in a campus recruitment , where he was selected and i was rejected, i didnt feel anything wrong here, because he has got more talents than me, so he was selected ..
But what will happen if i come for a recruitment drive there? will they allow me first?
Before blaming the political parties we should try to change our attitude towards others..Then we look good..After we look good we could try to change others..

I may not be correct but the current state of India is not as good as what you have heard of. If you really want to know India, better visit us and do visit remote places where actual India lives. You would be shocked to know what it takes to be an Indian in these days. We have rising bills, no peace, no development, no education, no power supply, no proper health care and sanitation and what not. But unfortunately, India is believed to be Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Calcutta (now Kolkata) for the world out there.
And who is to blame? The politicians of course who have been playing the music to which we poor and illiterates dance. They have been keeping just one agenda - First Us, then Us and our relatives and if anything remains, the better off citizens.

Argentina! I moved here from the U.S. about 10 years ago (from NYC) and I think it's absolutely one of the best decisions I have ever made! Because "people are people" and "politics are politics" this country has gone through a lot in the time that I've been here. At one point the Argentine peso was set at 1 to 1 with the US dollar and once it was "freed", caused all kinds of upheaval and adjustments. Seven different presidents were elected and ousted in little more than a 2 month period. It's all calmed down though.
The thing about Argentina is that about 90% of the population lives in and around the capital, Buenos Aires. It's a HUGE country and has tons of free space still available. Lots of places with rolling hills, green landscapes, small towns with lots of fresh air. You can get internet virtually anywhere. Prices of food, energy, clothing are all relative to where you live.
As far as politics.....well....it depends on who you talk to. The current president, Christina Kirchner, is pro-working class. She and the previous president, who happens to be her husband, have done a lot for the poor and working class people including building low-cost housing for around 1.2 million people. They made futbol (soccer) free to watch on TV when previously you could only get the big matches via pay-per-view. They've instituted a nation-wide water purification system and recently enacted gay marriage as a right. Of course, there are detractors as anywhere but I personally think they've done wonders for this country. One of the sad things to me though is "rich" Americans coming here and buying acre upon acre of land in the unpopulated areas. I wish they'd put a cap on that. Ted Turner has a HUGE estate towards the southern end of the country. People like the Clintons, Barbra Streisand and other celebrities also own chunks of land here and there. They buy it because it's beautiful, unspoiled land that can easily be farmed and is rich in resources. I currently live in a suburb about an hour outside of Buenos Aires and my dream and goal is to purchase a few acres further south myself....before all the rich people snap it up! lol.

not europe? - you've just ruled out scotland we don't have many snakes and i don't think there are any scorpions. it's quite pretty and not too many terrorists. i am not sure i'd necessarily say peaceful. at least not in glasgow after a rangers-celtic match. anyway i think there must be quite a few countries that have your list of wants, there'd be other drawbacks but your demands aren't unrealistic. well, apart from getting to see your neighbour's laundry, think you'll get this in a lot of places.

Sorry bunny. :) Scotland - too cold ( remember our winter temperatures are higher than your summer temperatures ). Second thing, cost of living. :) Third thing, I can see Scotland in movies. :) So effectively, it doesnt exactly feel a different world. :) Moreover, as long as English remains the common language - politics would find a way to enter into regular conversation. My father tunes in that local politics channel, and keeps on grumbling against them. Discussions are so heated. I feel like switching off the television, but I cant. I have an uncle and aunt. They too discuss this for hours!!!!

That should be very peaceful! The place you should be, is where you are! You could just transport yourself to a place called "Contentment", which is in your thought. The more content you are, external factors do not add to existing miseries as much. The more you brood on misery more misery you get. This is an unfortunate factor in life.
As for the physical world, just about every place has got the same problems. There seems to be no escape from it. So do the best you can under the circumstances. Best of luck!

I have to agree there. I live in a place where all my banks are at walking distance. There are five hospitals closeby. Two supermarkets, one three star hotel, two bakeries, and just about every convenience. So leaving this place, much as I would want to, doesn't really make sense. :)

Sure - they will exchange ideas, and have more ways to trouble people.
@dawny - no I dont. But it doesnt really concern me. Out here, I hear day in and day out somebody or the other criticising and it gets on my nerves. I wish there was just one positive news in front page.

Hi vandana, let your dream come into truth. We human beings are the creation of nature. But we are killing our mother nature. We all want sunny day, fresh air and want to watch singing birds. No terrorism, only peace. We should be more civilized. But who are responsible for the galloping of cost of living throughout the world? New inventions of science and technology creating new demands, so price of new products are going up an up. Now politics and business are co related. Business controls the politics. Business controlled politics does not think for the common people wants. Now fresh air is for the people who live at high rise apartments, not for the 'slum dogs'. You have mentioned some countries. They are in peace. Because they have not so many hungry mouths.
