How do you overcome your shyness?

I am shy to talk to people I don't really know and sometimes I get easily intimidated and I admire people who always seem to know what to say to other people spontaneously.
I once told myself I want to overcome my shyness and so I told myself, "why am I shy? what did I do to be shy?". Then I read somewhere that there is nothing to be shy or afraid of unless you committed a sin. So here I am posting and starting a discussion at myLot, trying to overcome my shyness and reaching out to shy people like me to start a conversation and overcome our shyness :)
How about you? Have you asked yourself what makes you shy? and what do you want to do about it?

Perhaps shyness disappears as we get to understand how other people feel. Sometime the manifestation of shyness is taken as "being rude" by others ...
So I decided to try to be simple and sincerely warm when dealing with people. When the warmness is not too welcome, then I observe what the mood has to be ... soon it's a pleasant getting used to routine. - much like adapting to the mood I guess
But it seems there is always a good chance of a pleasant encounter by being so naturally cheerful - which causes others to be at ease tending to eliminate the trigger of shyness, I think ...
What do you think ?

thanks, i really appreciate it :) I think that that would be a good idea...whenever I'm shy around other people i'll think of the other person's feelings and try to be sincere & cheerful in making them feel comfortable as well :)
