It ranges from breed to breed on how long a dog lives. I had a German Shepherd Mix that made it to 15. Last month I lost my Border Collie Mix and he was only 12.

I know it's quite hard to even think of having to lose your best friend (pet) in a couple of years or so. So the best we can do is spend our time with them as much as possible. I have a lab and a german shep. And the most I can do so that their legacy may continue is to at least have 1 pup from each of them if possible.
When I was still a toddler hehe, our japanese spitz lived until 13 years (human years). But she could hardly see anymore :(

well the average is 15 but one dog has reached more than 20 i think.

Nobody wants to loose a beloved pet. But they have to go when their time comes.
The life expectancy for a dog depends on the breed, the size of the dog and the kind of life they have. The latter is the most important criterion, because it's important if dogs are fed with quality food or if they have plenty of exercise.
The smaller dogs live longer than larger dogs.
