Why doesn't Islam allow them to eat pork?

It is not only Muslims that don't eat pork. Jewish people don't either. In the Bible, at one time, the pig was an unclean animal and God forbade them to eat pork as well as other animals. Though I'm not under any such restriction by my religion I also think we should avoid it as the pig usually eats all kind of garbage and I don't think that can be too healthy. Unless we know what they are given to eat. Better to be cautious then sorry!

Well sweetie, i don't eat pork, so i cannot think what is stopping them though. Maybe they feel the same as i do about pork. It is funky looking, have a dreadful smell and it looks a bit dirty. All i can think of at this moment. TATA.

I asked this question to a Muslim friend. And he told me that they don't eat pork because the pigs eat everything including their own sh*ts. Perhaps they think they are dirty. Perhaps this is why they are prohibited to eat pork. I love China

krupesh sev eral other relioions forbid eating pork as it really is an unclean meat.Pigs often harbor worms in their fleash whick can cause trichinosis if people eat pork not throughly cooked. Myself i just plain dislike the taste of pork meat so do not eat it any way.

it caused many diseases if u eat pork. in pork's meat there is so many worm that can harm you. Islam is not allowed it because it can kill them.

a few cultures considered pork "unclean" for a variety of reasons. it actually was quite wise considering what we know of trichinosis from undercooked meat nowadays.

It is more of a health reason. My nurse tutor was not a Muslim but he did not eat pork. He said that in an autopsy on a pork eating man it was found that worms that normally live in pigs had infested his liver. My Biology teacher, a non-pork eating Chinese (I do not mean to be racist but most non-Muslim Chinese in my country do eat pork), said that normal cooking would not kill the worms. The meat needs to be burnt thoroughly, making it inedible.

There are several religions that don't allow pork to be eaten. I think this started as a health issue. Pigs eat everything, all the food waste is thrown to the pigs, they are also kept in small pens which means they are very dirty. But I know for sure Jews and and those that follow Islam do not eat pork.

A Muslim friend of mine she told me once that eating pork is prohibited in the Qur'an. She didn’t elaborate at the time so I may ask her about it next time I see her. It is obviously for religious reasons. I don’t eat pork because I don’t like but I am not Muslim. I will return if I find out more about this...

i have friend who follow Islam, well from what they have said, they do not eat pork because it is unclean..i also believe that since pigs eat anything they are given.

I belive that it steems from acient times when pork was unsanatary. but I am not sure.

Islam allow moslems to eat PORK when nomore food in the world execpt PORK. As long as i know, moslems must obeys and take Qur'an as the way of life. So they cannot eat PORK while another food exist at that location/moment/place. how about you?

Hi Krup, Remember Islam started in the 7th century A.D. In those days there were no refrigerators, no ice in hot countries and no means to preserve fresh meat. Pork spoils very easily when not refrigerated. It also harbours a parasite called trichinosis if the pigs are not reared and housed properly, that is if pigs are brought up in crowded unsanitary condidtions. This parasite is a sort of worm and if ingested by humans in a piece of undercooked pork it can wander to the brain and kill a person. The Koran forbids eating pork. Since the Koran also contains a mixture of Jewish and Christian ideas it could be that the custom migrated to the Koran from Jewish scriptures or that people got very sick if they ate pork that had spoiled. The old testament (the Jewish Torah) has strict dietary laws as far as eating meat is concerned. The only animals that you can eat are those that are cloven-hoofed (split hoof) and chews the cud. That leaves out pork since pigs are cloven-hoofed but do not chew the cud. So you can eat sheep, goats and cows. They are all clovenhoofed and chew the cud. But you cannot eat horses, even though they are clean animals and totally vegetarian, the same as cattle but they are not cloven-hoofed and do not chew the cud. In the Western World pork is totally safe today because it no longer contains the trichinosis parasite. Pork is inspected and tested for this worm if slaughetered legally. It is also properly refrigerated after slaughter and sold only under refrigerated conditions unless it is preserved through salting and smoking such as hams and proscuitto. Personally I do not eat pork unless served at an occasion where I dould not refuse it, but I would never eat it in a hot country where meat is not refrigerated and protected from insects and flies after slaughter. In fact I would not eat any meat at all in a hot country.

It is their religious belief which only the muslims know the reasons.
