2 days ago, i accidentally reset my router setting and pops... my ISP password setting is gone together with the rests of the setting. I have not written down the password and i couldn't online for last 2 days as it was a public holiday....
This morning only i manage to call my ISP and retrieve my password. Has such things happened to you before? Or have you ever lost any important password such as email or bank account password? What do you do about it? Can you retrieve the lost password or reset it? or are you still unable to find the correct password to login?

yes i have that experience... 5 or 6 years ago i think.
it was an important online account password... if i remember it right, the the site asked me to change it since it has already expired, and i forgot to write it down or memorize the new one.
still thinking of the old password i tried to access my account and got it locked, so what we did was to call the site support number and inform them of what happened, we went to the usual question and answer, after many questions, they resetted the password, gave it to me and asked me to change it afterwards.

That's what i hated most. Some sites forces us to change password every few months... how would we remember a new password every few months for different sites... I think the easiest way is to add in 1..2...3 at the end for these sites. Exmp: password1, then password2... At lease when we forgot, we can always do trial and error :D

:D, well that idea would be good if the site wont lock your account after 3 wrong tries... .
some sites you can only enter password 3 times if all 3 are wrong you get locked. its kinda irritating really... but that is for security purposes, so i can nothing about it, but only sigh...

Yes, I have that happen to me too. It's darned inconvenient, and such a hassle! That was many years ago, and I vowed it would never, ever happen again. I bought myself a small Rolodex, similar to those kinds that people keep phone numbers in in their office. Instead of keeping names and addresses alphabetized, I keep my internet passwords, usernames, etc, etc, in there. Like myLot is filed under M, and has my date of join, username, password, etc. One nice thing about that is that to anybody seeing the rolodex, they think it's just names and addresses and wouldn't think to look in there for my more sensitive info.
Another thing I do is every once in a while I send an email to myself with certain accounts on it to refer to. This lets me access the info no matter where I am, like if I want to log in to somewhere while I'm at a friends house or something. I have had the same email address for at least 14 years, and even when my computer blows it's memory lol, or I'm forced to change isps, I still can get any of that info. So that malware can't read it, I don't type out the full url, but split it and write at instead of @, plus I don't write password, just p tacked on to the front of it (ie: p183jbj), and user would be something like ujoy. Anyways, I do that to protect the info. Sometimes a place will let you reset the password, but not all of them. It's just easier keeping track of it myself.

I don't work out of an office, I'm retired, so I keep my rolodex on my desk at home. (The rolo that has actual phone numbers in it is by a different phone.) But that's a good point for others to remember. One can never be too safe! You have a nice day too:)

I have a bank account but since I seldom use its online banking, one day I forgot its password. This is so bad. I tried different possible passwords but it failed all the time. Finally I had to call the bank and ask them to reset it and sent me a new password by letter. After that, I learned a lesson. I should write down the password somewhere and therefore I can find it whenever I need.

Sorry to hear but glad you were able to retrieve your password. This has happened to me but I just answered the security questions and I got to create a new password.

Yes, that has happened to me a number of times. I have different email addresses, and I have also joined many online programs. Most of the ids and passwords I note them down in my diary, but some I missed. And, those are the ones which I forget and lose. Some I could recall after a while, some I lose totally, and have to start new accounts.

I try not to lose passwords, there are sometimes I forget my pin but I know it can only be three different sets of numbers, and I usually get it right. Well I've not done that in a long time though as when I switched banks I used a different pin and all it was is that it took a little while for me to get used to the pin.
When it comes to a router I would hate to lose the password for it because I get online to help with earnings and things, as well as to try to find a job.

Hi asxenon,
Yes, I have lost passwords in the past, but not to the extent that you have, not being able to get on the computer at all. I did learn my lesson, though. I now have them all stored in on booklet that remains with me while I am on the computer.
The ones that I have learned from memory, I also write down just in case I have a brain fog and cannot remember, which has happened. It is a good thing that you can get help retrieving your password from the site's administration office.
It is good to keep your passwords in your head, but it is even better to write them down, just in case.
