history lessons the most i hated

When i was studying in school the most i hated was history as you were supposed to remember the dates and names of things which i was against.Why are we supposed to scratch our heads over something that has already happened and that too some hundreds of years back.

Studying history is a little different from "knowing" history...it does count to remember the dates...as for that particular day we would differ from being bad from good..would you believe that 9/11 or 26/11 if "excluded" from history lessons would be productive? Do you have an answer in that or would you like me to elaborate? Think it over and reply.
