Guyana (Land of Many Waters) often referred to as El Dorado is the best kept secrets in South America.
Georgetown, the first and only city which is about 45 minutes from the airport is the beautiful with lots of old architectural designs to interest those who enjoy visiting old towns. Guyanese, particularly those of Georgetown love music and as you traverse the town this can be heard on the sound systems, of which there are many in the vehicles. Guyana in spite of the fact that it is in South America is considered part of the Caribbean because of the common History it shares with them, as such the music and cultures you will encounter is of a Caribbean flavor.
Guyanese are extremely friendly and welcoming of foreigners.
Georgetown, however is the least beautiful part of Guyana. As you venture out into the hinterland, there are great mountains and beautiful waterfalls to behold. Guyana is the home to a large unexplored (considered impenetrable)forest. As a result Guyana is home to a large number of very beautiful wildlife unique to Guyana. We have the canji pheasant( The national Bird of Guyana), the cayman and the Arapaima.
We have nine Amerindian tribes, living working and hunting very close to the old ways. It is home to the Wai-Wais, Macushis, Patamonas, Arawaks, Caribs, Wapishanas, Arecunas, Akawaios and Warraus. Many of these people still speak the language unique to their particular tribe.
This relatively small, underdeveloped country with a population of 700, 000 plus is so extremely beautiful with much of natures treasures untouched, it would take more time than I have today to describe it all. I will take time another time to share my beautiful country with all another day.
If you wish to read on some animals and plants unique to Guyana do visit Living National Treasures: Guyana to read more.

Hi Royalty!
Thank you for the awesome tour of your beautiful country. I've always been amazed with the arapaimas. I wish I could visit Guyana one day and spend lots and lots of time gazing and learning about this amazing fish.

Well it might actually be quite possible. We get plenty of visitors here.
Because i love to tour the country side, and am a teacher, I always ask for transfers into different places in the countryside, so I get to work and live in that area for a period while i get my fill of the local life.
Presently i live in the city but i am already looking for a new place in the country so I can apply for a promotion that will take me there, this way I go on the Government's dime and still have fun.

Guyana sounds like a hidden paradise that not many travelers know about. I like the sound of the great mountains and the stunning looking waterfalls. I think that the Caribbean flavor sounds really special. It has an interesting culture with the different tribes that live there. Due to the wild forest it stays very unspoilt with much wildlife.
I saw a documentary about two American travelers that went on a trip to Brazil. They were walking along a track in the forest but they lose their way. They get of the beaten track and it gets more wild as they carry on walking. Every night is dangerous with mosquitoes and animals that they can hear but not see. Just as they are about to give up they see a stream which they go along. Amazingly a man in a boat sees them and they are rescued.
One day I hope I will be able to visit many different places in South America.

And you'd be most welcome. Unfortunately I have not seen much of South America thus far, only Brazil, I have confined most of my travels to the Caribbean isles. However I promise you if you ever come to Guyana you will have no regrets. It is worth the visit. Visitors would tell you the people here are very friendly.

Hi,
Am I correct in thinking Georgetown has the tallest wooden Church in the world and is also the only country in South America where English is the official language?
all the best urban

Well you got that right. We also have the highest one drop falls in the world (Kaiteur). Guyana is also home to what I believe is the world's fourth longest floating bridge. The Essequibo river(the longest in Guyana) is said to be large enough to hold all of Caribbean islands easily. This river runs down the map, divides the country in two.
