What is your nostalgic video game console of all time?

Hello folks, especially you who played video games a lot during mid-80s to mid-90s! Who does not recognize Donkey Kong, Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, or Pac-man? Those are video game characters from old time, and some of them are even still around because they are widely recognized. How about Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Atari 2600, Gameboy, or Sega Genesis? Those are also video game consoles from old time, not as good as current consoles, but I believe they have left you with childhood nostalgia. My best nostalgic video game console of all time is the NES. Although it was my second console after Atari 2600, but it was the first time I enjoyed video game a lot (I often dreamed playing games at that time). Not only because it was so much fun playing games back there, but also because I could enjoy it with friends! My favorite games are Super Mario Bros (of course!), Duck Hunt, Contra, Gradius, and many more! I love the music and sound, even I recorded my playing time into cassettes, and I am still listening to my recording even until now. So, how about you people? What is your nostalgic console of all time?

My favorite is the Sega Genesis. I have a lot of good memories with that console. For some reason the new consoles just don't have that charm anymore.

So you must be familiar with Sonic series, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, After Burner, or Mortal Kombat, right? I agree with you. It is very easy for us to buy a game lately, and even though the graphic and sound are much better compared to "our era," but I cannot experience the same joy like when we were with our old consoles back there. I believe you remember how happy we were when we bought game in our birthday or in any other celebrating moments.

My most nostalgic video game console would have to be the Nintendo Entertainment System. There are many interesting and funny memories related to that game system for me. I remember the lengths we'd go to just to play some of the games. We had some really weird techniques for getting a game to work. I remember my brother placing a game in a cool spot (like the fridge) for a bit to cool it down before inserting it in the console. There was also the one where they used a shirt to cover the game and blow on it to clean it out and other weird things. Surprisingly these methods actually worked. Besides those strange things the reason why this console is so memorable is because of all the great games I played on it. The earliest ones being Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt and The Karate Kid. Then there was the classic Contra with the Konami cheat code that is legendary today. My personal favorite is Super Mario Bros 3 since it was such a fun game.

Oh wow, glad we weren't the only ones doing that! I still haven't beaten the Contra game to this day, even with the cheat code lol. It really does bring back some good memories. BTW, thanks for the best response thing.

Oh yeah! Hahahaha! I remember that silly and funny moment quite well! It was the day we blew the cartridge and the console very hard, and we even praid before doing that! Then we chose who was the best blower that could fix the game! Who does not remember that 30 lives Contra trick? My friend used it a lot, and I was one of the very few that did not use the code. I played regularly, did once or twice continues, then ended the game with "S" weapon. Again and again, I feel like young again everytime I talk about this!

I like playing video games. I play some of the games whenever I have the time. I know there are so many different types of video games, ans some of the games need skill to play. I am not really that skilled. So I just stay with the simpler ones. Yes, Super Mario Bros. is very much my favorite too. Very exciting and very challenging. I praise the inventers of the game !

Yes. That is also the reason why I love NES so much. That's because of its simplicity. There were a lot of simple games back there, such as Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, Donkey Kong, Popeye, Tetris, well you name it!

Mine have to be SNES since it's the first console I got when I was a kid. I got that console on the Christmas of 1991 from my grandparents. I loved the games on that console. I would play Super Mario World, Super Bomberman, Mario Go Kart, Super Mario RPG, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, etc. for hours. I still have my SNES and all the games and luckily it still works. I sometimes take it out, plug it in, and play the SNES games when I feel like it.

Yes! I still remember when I've got my SNES. It was the very moment I always said "wow" everytime I encountered new games, because both graphics and sound were improved significaantly. Do yu mean, Super Mario Kart? Yes I do played all games you have just mentioned, plus many more such as Final Fantasy III (VI in Japan), a lot of Disney games, but still I love the first party games a lot!

Hi! I think mine would also be the NES...I was basically addicted to super mario and pacman...=) This generation's game consoles are also good especially with graphics and the sound but it's not as challenging as it was before...I use to stay up late just to finish any level...now, it's just so-so...

Agree. But, it is fortunate that Nintendo has virtual console and Microsoft has Xbox Live to preserve those old games. Plus, you can still buy remake old consoles and games.

I loved loved loved playing video games when I was little. The Atari, Nintendo, and Sega were mine too. I loved Pitfall. That was my favorite. Oh...and Q-burt! He was fun too. Now Mario Bros 3 could keep me playing for hours. I still like playing when I run across a good game.

My parents owned a pub when I was very small, and it had a "family room" where there was a table football set, a pinball machine, and an Asteroids arcade cabinet. This was the first video game I ever played. I was about 5-6 years old. I used to have to sit on a bar stool to play as I couldn't reach the controls otherwise! I know by today's standards Asteroids is a very simple game with poor quality graphics, but I loved it! A few years later my parents bought an Atari 800xl home computer, and I used to spend hours playing River Raid on it! This was a fantastic game, and I wish I could get an old Atari so I could play it again!

My first gaming console was a Sega Mega Drive and I loved Sonic games. I used to save up all my pocket money to buy games because they were really expensive. I remember being so desperate for the Cool Spot game, so when I could afford it I was so excited. You can imagine my dissapointment though when I had spent all that money and completed the whole game after just three days.

Hahaha, yes I do understand your feelings! Sometimes I didn't buy anything at school just because I wanted to buy a game! Cool Spot was one of the best games on Mega Drive / Genesis, and it was 3D, right? Yeah, I can feel your disappointment. It happened to me a lot, you know. I remember ever bought 3 games (Mortal Kombat 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Streets of Rage 3) for Mega Drive. I could finish them all in two days! After that my heart was nearly empty. I wish to have long standing months of playing those games.

The first system I ever owned and that I started out on was the NES, I had played that for hours straight with out getting bored. Also still to this day I get the itch to want to play the NES and I can't because the System is now long gone :(

Hey, I am still having my NES around and it is still working, because I do my lovely maintenance! I recommend you go to eBay and buy a NES to release the nostalgic moment you've got back there. A new or refurbished NESs are not really expensive. You can even go to www.retrousb.com and purchase additional something (I cannot discuss it here because of copyright issue).

I love all of these responses. I'm pretty young(20 years old) so my nostalgic moments are a little bit different. The first game console I ever played was my brothers Sega Genesis but I was about 3 or 4 years old so I have no memory of it, only photos and stories from my parents. The only game I do remember for Sega Genesis was Road Rash and jumping off the back of cars. My first vivid memories of gaming is going to arcades and playing the original Game Boy that my brother gave me. All I did was play Tetris and Super Mario. The first console I ever had for myself was a N64. In that same year my brother got a PS1. I played N64 games like Super Smash Bros, Ready 2 Rumble boxing, Hot Wheels turbo racing, Quest 64, 1080 snowboarding, fighting force 64 etc. I also played my brothers Playstation and thats when I played games like Tekken 2, nba live, crash bandicoot and metal gear solid. The thing thats weird though is that even though these systems are nostalgic for me, none of these are the most nostalgic that I've ever played. My most nostalgic system of all time is a system that I never even owned, the Sega Dreamcast. A big reason is because it has one my favorite games of all time, Sonic Adventure. I can literally play through Sonics story 50 times a day and never get tired of it. Every time I play it I have flashbacks of how life was when I was a kid and I feel this is the true meaning of nostalgia. It also had games like Jet Set Radio, the first NBA 2K game, and so many great RPG's. Lol so yea my most nostalgic game system is a system that I never owned and played about 5 times in my entire life, at my friends house, and I still plan on buying one real soon.
