Are you the type who give gifts on someone's birthday?

Whenever I had my birthday, my godmother never failed to give me a present every year and on Christmas. And so, in return, when I had godchildren of my own, I made it a point to give gifts every year during their birthdays and Christmas, aside from giving my close kins. And then, I began to extend it to close friends too, even just short, handwritten notes, small memento's or home-baked goods. Do you do that too?

Definitely, what's a birthday without gifts? One of them better be a cake...

The cake is there because it must be there. If you're not sure what to give someone for their birthday - you can't go wrong with the cake! Having said that... ...the cake can go wrong.

Yes, like, what's a birthday without a cake? I wonder why birthday celebrations need to have one. Maybe because it's sweet and you'll want something to blow candles on.

Generally gifts are given on birth days to every through our their life similarly we also receive gifts on our birthdays.It is the practice prevalent throughout the world .Mostly in kind but some times gift is also given in the form of cash.The gift also depends upon the status of the person giving the gift and the status of the person receiving the gift.In case of children they love to receive gifts of toys only and not cash.I remember an incident when we were celebrating the birthday of my grand daughter while she was a little girl. As soon as any one gave her a gift pocket she used to immediately open the gift packet and make a remark whether she liked the gift or not and expected a gift of something else{ a different toy only }. However much we cautioned her she repeated the same remark every time till the end of the function.She was on 6 or 7 years old.So no body took it seriously.But as elders we were annoyed at her remark.Gift in pocket creates a suspense and one feels excited if an expensive gift is given.Needless to say that women get excited on receiving jewelery as gift on birthdays.{ no bad intention please}

Gifts are given with love or gratitude or with sentiment.Let us ignore gifts given with a motive in ezxpectation of some favout in return. The gifts are not articles or cash in true sense of the word and they are more than its intrisic value. Therefore we feel grateful for any gift irrespective of its intrinsic value.I am glad you have understood the point.

Kids would normally outgrow that attitude, especially because while they're young, they are just being honest to say what they feel about what they receive. As adults, we tend to be more careful and considerate. I do feel excited too when I'm given an expensive gift but I do not ignore the inexpensive ones. I am always grateful to be given gifts.

whether it's a family or a friend, as much as i can, i try to give something to make the person feel appreciated and remembered on their birthday. sometimes i don't have much money, but i still try to be creative with the gift that i give.... it doesn't have to be expensive, but it always must have a "personal touch".

The best gift is one where you have put your heart into. It shows that you are generous of heart. That's great, Kquiming! Thanks for responding.

I almost always give a gift to to someone on their birthday. It all depends on how well I know the person. It may not seem like a big deal to some people to receive a gift on their birthday. i think a little remembrance just might brighten someone's day. A birthday gift is the perfect way!

Gifts are gestures of how we care for our friends and family. And we sing happy birthday because we want to share the happiness. We gain friends by giving, that's nice. Thanks for responding.

I love giving gifts but depends on the degree of relationship or closeness. If that person is super close to me and very special then I would really give, but if not that super close I just extend my greetings. But for my godchildren, I do give them gifts especially on birthdays and Christmas. There's something wonderful in gift giving, fulfillment I guess.

I've actually always wanted to give gifts to all my friends or my family's birthday. But I do not have the money to buy gifts. I can only give congratulations to those who repeat the year.

Sometimes, cash gifts are a good option as the person receiving will always be able to find a way to use it and a lesser inconvenience to the giver. Thanks for responding.

yes, i do. i give gifts to my friends when their birthday. Besides, never forgotten to do that for my family members. I give my parents gifts when celebrating their birthday, wedding anniversary, father day, mother day and valentine day. For me, giving a gift is symbolic that you love and appreciated that person.

I try to give gifts every time I go to someone's birthday party. Especially if it's a dear friend or a relative. Even if the birthday celebrant is not close to me, as a guest, I try to bring something as a gift. But I don't send a gift if I won't be seeing the birthday celebrant. I used to send greeting cards, but not anymore. I just try to greet them, maybe through text or email, and send them warm wishes and prayers.

Yes, with the new technology, giving e-greetings is really easier than giving personalized cards. It's the thought that usually counts. Thanks for responding.

Hi mimining, Yes, I give presents on someone's birthday. In fact, I would rather give presents than to receive them. I have relatives and friends all over the country that I send gifts to. I am at the post office so frequently that the clerks all know me. They laugh when they see me coming in. A few will ask, "who's getting this one?" The other customers in line have no idea why everyone knows me. It doesn't matter what holiday, I find a reason to send gifts especially to the little one that I don't get to see very often. My reward is getting a phone call with a "thank you, I love it." I have a wonderful life, and I attribute it to my joy of giving. As it is said, "It is better to give than to receive." It really works for me.

Well yes I am that type, but I don't know if I can do that anymore because it costs me a lot of money and since I don't have a job right now I don't think that I could afford to do that anymore which makes me kind of sad if only the economy would get better. I can only hope for the best now because yeah I just can't do it anymore maybe just write them something or make them a card or something I didn't even get a gift for my dad I must be seen like the worst daughter now which makes me even more sad tough times right now.

Hello mimining..^.^ Your godmother is so sweet and so you are.. I also give gifts to my selected friends and my family. I always put effort in creating those simple present because I believe that things like that will be valued more than those ready made gifts. ^.^

I usually give gifts to people who really deserve it. I usually greet them on their special days...But actually it may depend on the person because for me a gift is something that's very special not because its material possession but you put your self to it.
