hey,Mylotters. Well for the last month or my computer (Dell) randomly shuts down and then continues to make a beeping noise, and the light around the "on button" is flashing green! i don't know what i do, i have tried deleting certain programs that might effect it. so i would turn my computer on, and would works fine for around 10 minutes, then "BEEEP, BEEEEP" and the screen just shuts down but the on button's light keeps flashing. this has become very frustrating and i am considering to get a new desktop. so could you guys please give me some advise on how i could overcome this problem. thanks:)

First I would assume that this is a desktop. Now I have a question about the beeping pattern. Computers have different beeping patterns to give the technician an idea of the problem. it could be (1) repeated long beep or (2)a combination of a number of short beeps and a long beep... there are several more patterns actually but these two are the most common. These beeps are heard when you start or restart a computer and there is a problem with one of the components. Since you said your computer works for the first 10 minutes and then the screen would shutdown but the power LED is still on. To turn off a computer in this condition, press the power button for about 3 seconds (or more in some units) until it turned off. Does your computer do turn on after giving it a few minutes rest? If it does then probably something is overheating. If your computer is a desktop, most probably the problem is on the video card. I think you need to buy a new desktop anyway. But I think if you post here or send me the details of the beeping pattern and when do you hear this, I could probably give you a more specific cause of the problem. You may need a technician to fix it all along, but at least I could give you an idea if the technician will be replacing more components than necessary. I hope this helps

yes happens to my computer as well.. but not as much... somtimes it beeps 2 times then shuts down or sometimes when I open the computer it suddenly beeps 2 times and shuts down.. But the problem is not with programs in your computer, it is with your harddrive... somthing is wrong with the hard drive that is why such is happening.. and after reading to what happens to your computer like every 10 minutes then I should suggest get a technitian to see it.. because it is a problem that can be fixed very easily , not a major issue... But if you do have a little extra cash then I would suggest getting a new desktop .. It beats all the extra energy consumption...

You need to consult a good technician so that he can diagnose what is happening to your computer.I suspect that it was infected by a certain virus.

This issue, I think you have to check among the electrical cords inside the CPU case which is attached to something unknown. Or the Hard disk problem. The RAM is not connected properly, place it tighly. Consult the shop nearby.

There are a certain number of beeps that mean a certain thing. I don't recall what all of them are but in most cases numerous beeps can relate to falty memory or ram. From reading what you have written though it sounds like it could be heat related. How long have you been experiencing this problem? Also, did you move the computer at all? I'm only asking this question as sometimes when a computer is moved it accidentally gets knocked and this could move something inside like the ram out of position or something. You say for the last month so before that everything was working fine? You were able to access the desktop and windows? The fact that you have the green light shows that there is some activity going on. There is one thing that I'm thinking of and as I mentioned before, it could be heat related. You say your computer is four years old so chances are you've never been inside your pc within this period of time. Over the processor you have the heatsink, that's the fan that basically keeps your cpu or processor cool. Dust tends to build up on this fan and eventually if the dust is not removed then it starts to stop the fan from operating at optimum performance! As a consequence of this the pc starts to heat up quickly inside and this is very bad for your processor. As a safety mechanism the computer automatically shuts down in order to protect the processor from damage. I go inside my pc on a regular basis and I remove all the dust by using one of those cans of compressed air. I spray the air over the fan above the processor and remove the dust being careful not to touch any of the components within the pc. This could be your problem I think, most probably heat related. I would speak to a local technician in your area. If you feel ok about doing it you can remove the cover from the side of your pc and have a look inside, make sure that you don't touch anything though. If you notice a huge buildup of dust over your processor then this is most likely your problem. If so, you would need a can of that compressed air and then you can spray the dust away and close everything up and reboot and see if this makes any difference. Good luck. Andrew
