This is a short story about a town and a woman being chosen in the lottery... I would like to hear any reactions anyone has to this. I will respond to all posts that are written and have some context about the story.

Unfortunately I did not understand fully about the story. .. Few that I can catch a game that happens everyone wants to win where winning is female, so in playing the lottery is not only men but women can experts could also exceed males expertise ..

Its about the fact that although they don't even know the tradition they are willing to go ahead and stone someone. They even specifically gave stones to her youngest child. Could you stone your mother because its tradition. They believed the world would end if they didn't make this sacrifice.
