Choosing between Geforce 9500GT and 9600GT

Hi,
A computer shop near my place stocks the 9500GT and for the 9600Gt I'd have to take a long drive which I don't really want to take. Is the 9600Gt far better than the 9500GT. The ones I'm looking at are both DDR2 by the way. The cost difference is not much but significant and I'm not looking to play very high end games. So which one should I go for? Thanks.

9600GT is really better than 9500GT. Dont go by the fact that they both have DDR2 memory, so both will perform same. That's the wrong fact.
Card's performance is judged by its clock speed and memory bandwidth.
And the specifications of 9600GT is better than 9500GT.
So, your long drive would not go waste if you finalize 9600GT.
Also, if you dont want to take a long drive, then you can consider any ATI card.Those are also good, else my decision will be a long drive to 9600GT.

Alright. Thanks. Can you please tell me a bit more about ATI cards? I heard they're cheaper than NVIDIA cards. Will they work on an Intel motherboard?

Yup, they will work with any Intel/AMD motherboard. Also, ATI cards consumes less power than Nvidia cards (except Nvidia's latest 4xx series which cost Rs.13K and above).
So, if you can tell the budget you have for the card,then i can suggest a good ATI performer.

And btw, you live in Kolkata, have heard a lot about Chandni Chowk, try to get the card from there if possible, they can give a great bargain.

I think that as a general rule the higher the model number of the card the better the quality of the card. The 9600GT would definitely surpass the 9500GT. Always go for the higher number as that tends to be the latest card in that model range. There may only be slight differences but I think that's one of the goldern rules of purchasing a graphics or video card.
I don't play high end games myself so I'm pretty pleased with the onboard graphics card that I have in my system. Andrew

I get your general point but what I'm looking for here is that does the 9600GT far surpass the 9500GT. If yes then I'd be a fool not to get the 9600GT. If the difference is not much then I'd save myself a ton of hassle and get the 9500GT.
