Wants VS Needs

I'm currently in a dilemma. I want a new phone, but I have 2 perfectly working phones. So I'm torn between WANTS VS NEEDS. Do I need one? What will I do with the other 2? Will it be reasonable? Have you ever caught yourself torn into something you want and something you need? As for me, I am still thinking about it. I have to be wise about money, or else.

i think you should not have spend your money just to buy the new one unless you sell the other two or give them to some one else.then you will need to buy the new one as now you really need it because you don't have any-it will become your NEEDS then.otherwise it just look like you desire it more than called it as your need.if you do not have any financial problem and you still want to buy the new phone then go ahead.it is your money anyway.but wasting is not a good deed my friend~

It's really a personal choice however, I would keep the two phones I have until they break. I am good at using items until the very end when they die. I would lean more towards buying something I need vs. something I want. Again, this is my way of thinking and it doesn't mean it's right by any means.

It depends on what you use the cellphone for and if you really need another one. Me, I have been using the same cellphone since 2005 and it's still working perfectly. If you are thinking of money, I suggest you don't buy a new one because it seems like you don't need another one. If you want a new phone because you like better features, maybe it would be possible to buy that thing for dual sim and sell the other 2 cell phones. I don't know if this works for you but just thought I give a suggestion. It really is difficult when wants vs needs comes into a situation. Most of the time, the want weighs more emotionally. Even so, I think it's best to think thrice when there is already doubt to buy something in the first place.

Convert want into need. Find somebody whom you could and would give a gift equivalent to the price of the old telephone. Gifts like that have a way of coming back in some other form some day in future. :)

"If it isn't broke, don't try to fix it". In other words, as long as your phone is functioning properly, and it is doing what you need it to do, then I don't see the point in spending the money on a new one when you can use that money for something more productive.

These days with so many in need, I have taken to giving the amount of money I would spend on wishes and only funding needs for us. This makes me feel good and takes the choice of wishes or needs away from my over worked brain.

We all have choices to make when we want or need something. A need would be something we just couldn't live without having. A want is something that we desire but life could go on without. We have to prioritize and place the value where it belongs. Decide if something is a need in your life or just something we think we want.

Want, can be turned into need. While need is a must to have. In your case here, what's there that u see in the new phone u want? Is it those functions? New applications? If that's the case, those can be the reasons for your need to buy a new phone. If appearance of the phone is the appeal factor to u, I will say don't waste your money. If u really want it, get a phone with everything u need while u can sell those 2 on hand now. Let it generate some cash for u and u won't feel as guilty when u are buying a new set. As long as u are able to convince yourself from wanting, to needing, all problems will be solved.

prioritize your needs. wants can wait, i believe. because if the time comes that you've got nothing at the time you needed it most and you purchased your want, i don't think things will be fine. well, you can have loans or borrow money from friends but having what you want and sacrificing your budget for needs is unpractical i think. needs is something you should have but wants is something that is fine not to have. since you already have two perfectly working phones, why not sell them for the phone you want? i think it's a better option than having your third phone.

if the phone that you want to buy is more like your dream phone, then why not buy it. but you must sell your 2 other phones at least it would cut you some costs in your wallet. this suggestion will only be applicable if you're not in the business type of job that requires you to have at least 2 phones.

First question, what is the reason of your 2 phones? second, do you money for it? IN the present situation money is so important. think more than two times if you want to buy another phone.for me 1 perfectly working phone is ok

I always think like this... "you can't always get what you want." In your case you have a possible solution to resolve your problem, you want to get a new phone when you have two perfectly fine working phones. Then you should sell the two phones, get money from it and use that money to buy the one phone you really want. In the end, your two phones will not go to a waste and you get what you want! Good luck! :)

That does happen once in a while to me too...but I am more the wait until the other ones die before I spend money on another one. I am pretty frugal about some things....others...well I find myself in a dilemma like you!

trishasantos well you could sell the two other working phones then buy the fancy dancy new one without feeling any doubt or guilt about it. I have often had to weight want versus necessity and necessity usually won out too. One should try to be practical unless you have plenty of money and can buy wants and also necessities. If you are like me you do have to budget things and buy necessities first.

Hey trish! Unfortunately, I have been in that situation far too often and picked the wrong way to go! If it something that really isn't necessary and you don't really need it right now I would try to wait! I am telling you what I would try to do, not necessarily what I would do! I am trying to save you from yourself since I can't save me!

Perhaps you could sell the 2 working phones you won't be using and buy the new one. I understand what it's like to really want a piece of technology.. they are so exciting! And for me, once I am intent on getting something, I will usually find a way to get it. If you have 2 working phones, you probably don't NEED a new phone (well, of course you don't!) but who really NEEDS half of the technology we have going on out there, these days? Cut yourself a little slack. Splurging should be allowed once in a while, especially if you get some money for your other phones (pawning them, eBaying, craigs list, etc)

I'm sure that there must be something else you can spend your money on instead. Unless you intend to have a hobby of collecting phones. Or you could use the phones and spend all your extra money on the bills! Sooner or later, you'll realize how silly you are being.

If you have plenty of money, it shouldn't really matter if you need or want a thing. If you want a thing badly and for a long time then it will feel like a need. So it is basically no much difference between them. But if you are short on money and really want that new phone, you should try selling the 2 working ones and with the money you gain on them to buy the new one. I know this is how I would do. But if it is only a want, and you can go over it, then you let time pass by and you will be satisfied with your 2 phones that you already possess.
