I do smoke and I do drink. And I do pay my taxes also. As I was watching an interview with the new BIR secretary, it seems that the BIR are thinking several new ways of gathering taxes like collecting taxes on Pedicab drivers. I do believe what they are doing is NOT against the law and it is very much helpful to the economy of the country, but I think there are much more bigger issues that the BIR should be focusing first before doing or implementing new taxes. If they really wanted to gathered a much bigger amount of tax this year, the best way to do this is to put some iron will to strictly implement the tax collection not only to the tax payers but also to the tax collectors. At the same time minimized the corruption so that those taxes should be enough to support the needs to run this government.

it's about time! maybe implementing tax on these pedicab drivers is one way of getting there. some of these means of transportation is causing a lot of problems, traffic wise. i live here in Manila and i've noticed some of these vehicles are already motorized but doesn't have a plate number. i don't even think that the drivers have licenses. i do hope we could get rid of all the corruption but it's just impossible. i love our country but i hate the ones who run it. :(

I also hate traffic, I also got annoyed by those pedicab drivers that are flooding the busy streets of Manila, but I think disciplining them is not by putting tax on their income. And it is not the job of BIR, instead it is the job of the LTO or the MMDA to regulate this poor pedicab drivers. The pedicab drivers in Manila maybe that annoying but not all pedicab drivers are like those in Manila as you said it. There are still some discipline pedicab drivers in the Philippines

oh come on! people with income less than certain amounts should not be asked to pay taxes. poor pedicab drivers living on a couple of hundreds a day and too tired cycling as much as they cann just to increase their day's money will then be taxed?? oh they should catch the perpetrators not paying taxes that is due to government - im sure there are a lot of tax evaders out there please! not the poor people.

They really want the poor to get poorer and the rich to get richer eh? Collecting taxes even on pedicab drivers will give them more taxes to put in their own pockets. They should start with going after the large tax evaders. goodness.

That's odd. Pedicab drivers earn so little that jeepney and tricycle drivers seems well off compared to them. BIR should concentrate on going after bigtime tax evaders like Lucio Tan and not on dirt poor Filipinos struggling to eat 3 times a day.
