Why do Muslim religious leaders even want to build a mosque near the 9/11 site?

I've seen a lot of discussions asking about what our thoughts are about the building of a mosque in the vicinity of the 9/11 site. I think that the larger question is why Muslims would even want to build a mosque near the site. I can't help but think that it is such a horrific insult to the families who lost loved ones there. What say you?

I wish this whole Muslim thing would go away including the Muslims, but it is not and they are not so we need to figure out how to control the situation instead of just whining about it. The Building being Built is not a Mosque. It is a Community Center of sorts. I am sure that eventually there will be a Mosque in it, but it is going to have shops and a culinary school and other things first. It is quite a way away from Ground Zero. I forget just how many blocks it is, but they already have a Mosque a lot closer. They owned the land already and it is properly zoned for all the stuff they want to build. They do have every right to build what they want to build. I am not defending them...I am informing you. This whole business sucks. It is getting bad all over the US. You need to be paying more attention to the fact that Cities and Counties are allowing Sharia Law to run side by side with Local Law. WOMEN in THIS country are ALREADY starting to SUFFER because of this. WAKE UP to the real problems. Get the bags off of your heads.

If you are a female, then you should look Up Islamic Law on the net and read it in its entirety. It is in Boston Houston and Deerfield already and coming to a city near you soon. No one can build a strip club or an adult book store next to a Mosque just like they cannot build one next to a church. I am sorry about the error about the fact that there will be a Mosque from the beginning. I was going on early statements that the first stage of building was just the Community Center and they the Culinary School with a Mosque to come later.

It's probably a good idea to actually have the facts before you inform us. Your information is simply not correct. The proposal is to build a community center AND a Mosque at that location. Please check out the ABC news link abcnewsgo.com/US/Politics/ground-mosque-opponents-supporters-turn-demonstrate/story? Of course, they have a right to build what they want to build. It is a matter of whether or not it is appropriate to build something that will evoke raw emotion in those who lost people on 9/11. So, I assume that what you are saying with this point is that if someone owns a piece of land near a Mosque that since they own the land that it would be fully appropriate to build a strip club or an adult bookstore there as well. Again it is a matter of courtesy, taste and common sense. I have no clue what Sharia Law is but I can tell you that I am a female and if I am suffering then I need someone to explain it to me because I have every right and every freedom that everyone else in this country has.

It is a political statement, it says 'we whooped your butt and now we will rule you' The first thing Muslims ever did when conquering a people was build a mosque at their 'Holy Places'. Pam Geller understood this as she is a student of history.

How is it an insult? The attack on the WTC was perpetrated by a few thugs who claimed to be acting in the name of Islam. They were acting only in the name of their fanatical misunderstanding of the Qur'an and were not representative of Islam or Muslims. There were Muslims who lost there lives during the attack who left families and loved ones who are suffering a huge insult as a result of the unthinking and regretful opposition to the building of a community center more than two blocks away and out of line of sight of ground zero.

You got a point..But to avoid the biased thoughts it's better not to put mosque there. They're not going to do that I think.

I understand that there were Muslims who lost there lives there as well and I do understand that this has absolutely nothing to do with mainstream Muslims or the Quran. I question the motive and taste level of anyone who would consider building a Mosque near a site where so many people were murdered in the name of a fanatical interpretation of a religion

They want to build the mosque there to rub the fact that muslims blew up the World Trade Center in our faces. Nothing like building a mosque near the site of the attack to show support for your fellow muslims...

I couldn't agree with you more. I understand that this was a fringe group of Muslims but I think that building a Mosque there only puts another notch on the belt of that group who would represent their religion as a band of murderous thugs.

There is a good and bad to this. A mosque is a holy place for Muslims. Putting a holy place in the 9/11 site can also be a sign of respect. Not all Islam are bad. In fact there is nothing in Islam teachings that teach them to blow up buildings. Its the extremists who blew up the 9/11. There was a comment here about the conspiracy about 9/11. I did see some documentaries and I am keeping an open mind about it. I mean for some high and mighty country known as US of A who could seek enemies from all over the globe, Osama and his terrorist buddies hasn't been caught yet. Just take a look at all them weapons US, British and China have been marching around. All those weapons and for what? But seriously, not all of Islam is bad. I mean look at Christianity, look at the way they scare people into following them. We should all set differences about religions/races aside. It just creates issues. If I'm a Muslim and I see this I'd be insulted.

Again, I realize that mainstream Muslims do not find any justification whatsoever in the murderous acts of 9/11. I have said over and over again that this was a small group of murderous extremists that chose to interpret their religion to justify their murderous deeds. I don't know what documentation that you saw that indicated that there was a U.S. or Israeli conspiracy on 9/11 but if they are coming from anything other than a legitimate news source you should question the authenticity. Couple that with the fact that Al Quaida HAS CLAIMED responsbility for it and how any reasonable person could think otherwise simply mystifies me. In terms of the high and mighty U.S., don't worry we're used to it. We are the first to help people all over the globe and after they receive our help, they spit in our face. It's happened to us over and over again. I am quite sure that when the Phillipines suffers a natural disaster that they won't come to the evil U.S. with their hand out. Now let's address the Christianity thing. I have no clue what you mean about "scaring people into following them." I am a Catholic and I am Catholic by choice. No one scared me into accepting that religion. Quite frankly, it is quite obvious from your post that you are Muslim.

Its the person who will be incharge of that mosques, wants to build it... so what else is there to say ?? why do you say its an insult to the families that lost their loved ones? It wasnt Islam who brought the buildings down it was the US government it self... 9/11 was an inside JOB ! go watch some documentaries instead of getting brain washed with the zionest controlled media.

What there is to say is that it is a complete sign of disrespect to the families of the 9/111 victims for it to be built there as a constant reminder of what extremists who practice the Muslim faith are capable of. The assertion that the U.S. government or that the Israelis (the other common conspiracy theory) were involved in this are so ridiculous that they need not be addressed. One small point in regard to that and I will not respond to any other things that people may or may not have seen on You Tube. You are aware, I assume, that Al Quaida DID take responsiblity for the attacks aren't you? They are quite proud of the fact that they slaughtered over 3,000 innocent men, women and children on that day. Me brainwashed? I think that the brainwashing finger needs to be pointed in the other direction.
