Reality shows? Really? Again?

Why is it that we have become obsessed with reality shows so much? I guess it all started with talk shows, then Jerry!!!. I wonder a lot of times why it is that we are so interested in what other people are doing is because we want to know we aren't alone. But if I have to watch one more Baby story, housewives, teen mom or any of the others I am going to scream. The most "reality" I want on tv is Sports. And most of them are scripted to an extant anyway. Even one of the Housewives says they play up most of the fights that they have. Is anyone else sick of these things, or can someone tell me why they love them? I just want to understand the whole obsession.

Survivor started the whole thing and then all kinds of reality shows started popping up. I love Survivor! And it is such fun to see what is going on and how people treat one another. The love to hate characters are great! I don't care for sports at all. I do like alot of the reality shows though. I do alittle weirded out by some but not many.

Sorry it took me a couple of days to get back, my internet connection is rather spotty sometimes. I dont like the "reality" shows because a lot of it is at least partially scripted anyway. Its hard to say really how people would treat each other because they are kind of told how to act. For me thats not really reality lol.

I think that reality and show pretty much sums it up. They have to script parts of it. I think they need to find a different name for alot of them. Some are real reality like the Cordashians and some like that. I get a kick out of them if I am in the mood and nothing else good is on. I do still enjoy Survivor and it has been on for along time.

Most of them don't interest me at all, but I do enjoy Amazing Race and Survivor. I like seeing all the different places and cultures in Amazing Race, and with Survivor it's more the human interaction and seeing who will outwit who.

OK I can understand wanting to see the different locations and stuff, but I have a hard time (because most of the time they are such bad actors) that at least some of it isn't contrived. I think that they are told how they should act with certain people.

I hate reality shows! I never understood what people see in them. A waste of television time. My idea of reality is a sink load of dishes, laundry piling up in the laundry room and shopping for groceries and maybe the eleven o'clock news. That's about all the reality I can take, lol.

I know that feeling. My life is more reality then i want to deal with. I dont want to hear people screaming at each other because one of them picked the wrong color for her earrings.

I agree entirely. People seem to be obsessed with them. The shows are just shows, they are not real life. Even the talk shows, why would you want the whole world to know about your life...are there really people out there like that or is it all pretence for the camera? Here we have reality cooking shows on all channels, masterchef, hell's kitchen, Ramsay's kitchen nightmares and so on. I want to watch some good drama, movies, documentaries, sport, anything that isn't about seeing other people doing stuff which we all just get on with doing anyway, but without all the drama, thank goodness.

My daughters favorite is Maury though Lord only knows why its always the same. "Keisha has been here 32 times and this time is sure he is the father" "Carson you are not the father" then she runs off stage screaming and crying. I mean come one really? First off would you really want the world to know that you were really that easy? and secondly after that many times dont you think that the surprise and shock would be over with? I think a lot of it is that these people out there that just want their 15 mins of fame.

Great post. I completely agree. I am not a fan of Reality TV but it has become huge. It is really promoting and recognizing poor behavior which scares me about the future of entertainment and this country. Stick with sports!

Speaking of which im watching the Colts game right now lol. It will eventually get to the point that its going to be nothing but these d*&n reality shows. I think maybe people have run out of actual ideas and that's the best they can come up with lol.
