Not so keen on flying.

New Zealand

I love travelling, especially road trips around New Zealand whenever we can. I must admit I have a bit of a fear of flying. I fly when I have to, but if there is a way out I would much rather travel by car or train. Last night I watched a programme on TV called Mayday. It was about an Indonesian Airline plane crash which happened a few years ago. The plane had a navigation problem and ended up in a storm and crashed into the ocean, killing all on board. This reinforced my apprehension about flying. I know it is the safest means of travel, and I am not paranoid about it, just not that keen. Does anyone else have a bit of a fear of flying?

I feel the same. It is kind of scary when you think that all the lives of the pepole inside the plane rests in the pilot's hand. There was a news of a plane in India that crashed because the pilot fell asleep and missed the runway. these kind of news make me more hesitant to board airplanes.

I never heard about that one, thats terrible. The pilot has such a big responsibility but they are only human. I hate not having the control. Back in the late 80's I flew from Heathrow to Belgrade, that was an experience. The plane was packed full to the brim, felt like being in a truck, shook all the way....haha. Got there and back allright though, did a bit of praying and soul searching on that trip.

I am a very keen independent traveler. Some places are faraway and a long haul flight is necessary. Going by ship isn't easy to arrange, takes a long time and is much more expensive than a plane ticket. When I fly I simply hope for a safe trip. This summer I took my disabled toddler son and baby daughter on a flight from London to Vancouver return. I love traveling by train and I tolerate traveling by plane. It is not my favorite way of traveling but to get to different destinations I need to go on planes. For ten years I got severe ear pain and then in 1997 I got given a pair of ear plugs. These let me fly pain free. In 2001 I flew all the way to beautiful New Zealand and flying also let me see some island in the South Pacific Ocean which are really special like Samoa.

Hi, I love travelling by plane rather than by car. I feel that travelling by car/bus is very dangerous and I have saw many news about road accident. A collasion between car, lorry and bus which caused lot of victims. I avoid to travel far by car/bus. When I travel by plane, I don't have that kind of fear and I feel quite relaxing. There was once I was on my flight to Australia and it took 7 hours for me to reach the destination. It was a night flight and also my first time experience.I did enjoy the night flight. I tried to catch up some sleeps and listen to music, also was served some food in the flight.
