Women are susceptible to this than men and I thought this is just for adult like me and the rest of the universe. But, I was wrong....
Two months ago my daughter vomited and got a very high fever . Out of fear, we took her to the nearest hospital .The finding was she had UTI or Urinary Tract Infection. She was admitted at the hospital for 5 days.
I thought our ordeal was over but this week we took her again to the hospital because of vomiting and high fever. We thought it might be the dengue. But thank God, it wasn't. The culprit? UTI! and to think that she is just 3 years old!

Hi there eurekafemme,
Actually I had the same experience as you had. My daughter had UTI when she was 2 years old.. She also ha the same symptoms like what your daughter had. High fever, vomiting, and even LBM.. She was also admitted to the hospital for 4 days.
There are reasons why they catch UTI. The diapers. Since our babies were very young, they are dependent on diapers. But we should always make sure not to prolong the usage of a diaper because it causes some bacteria to enter and cause UTI. Water. Babies need to drink lots of water also. Not just milk. The doctor advised us to let our baby drink water often, not juice. Since then what I did is let her drink water often, and tried skipping on using diapers if not really needed..
Since then we haven't encountered that problem with my kid..
And yes, UTI isn't only happening with adults, but babies too..

As I have told yo and Ybong, it wasn't the diaper.According to the pedia, she might be suppressing herself from urinating. Lately, she was so into playing and watching videos in the internet that even if she feels like urinating ,she would hold her urine for as long as she can. Until eventually, she'd urinate in her undergarment. She's drinking water , lots of it, that's I was surprise she has UTI.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Genevy.I'll sure take note of that so as to avoid this thing to happened to my 6 months old, too...

I am hoping too that she'll be ok. Though, there is a chance that she might get it again (it is recurrent) but I am taking every possible means to not give the bacteria a chance to infect her.
Yup, being a parent is never easy, huh.:)It is not the money to spend in every visit to the doctor that is we are so worried about, It is because we love our children so much that we don't want anything or anybody hurt them.
My mother used to tell me that it is ok to bring my kids to the hospital since we have the money to pay for the medication and we're always lucky that we went home with them surviving the ordeal. But what if otherwise....

Oh I see about that.. Good thing I got an idea from you.. Urinal suppressing may be one cause why children gets UTI.. That's what I always tell my daughter because I can see she's doing it also.. But thanks God she doesn't have UTI again..
I hope everything will be alright for your kids.. I know how parents worries so much when their kids and babies get sick.. because that's how I feel when my kid becomes ill.. I am just happy that UTI never hit her again since then..

I never thought it could be possible for babies, too, my dear, until my daughter has it...and it is very hard dealing with it. It is painful physically as well as in the pocket.:(

Hi there, Ybong and Genevy.:)
The culprit isn't diaper because she isn't wearing diapers anymore. She knows how to control her urination and defecation so there's no use for it . Every time she uses the toilet, I'm always the one cleaning her up, washing with plenty of water and soap even if she just urinate. We are located in parts of qc where water is not a problem.
Sigh... just too difficult when you meticulously taking care of the kidss and yet they still get sick...

well, we have to be extra careful of our surroundings, the things our kids get into contact with, etc. etc... there's so much filth, even in the air or from the mouth of other people, literally and figuratively... for your kid, wishing her well...

Hi there, Bystander. :)
I am taking extra care of my daughter since the very first time she was hospitalized at the age of three months. i have become so meticulous when it comes to her and her health... But, yes, there's just too much filth of which we don't have control over them sometimes...
Yesterday was the last check up she went through because of UTI. i'M relieved that she's cleared of all the bacteria that infected her. She's fully recuperated now.:)

never heard of it could infected kids as well. at least you know now the reason of the high fever and vomiting. i guess it could be good also if your child drink lots of water and coconut juice. at least its not as bad as Dengue but you'll get through to it in God's help and you and your husbands help your daughter will be fine.

I wasn't aware about that, too , until my daughter got infected.... I' m doing everything to make her drink a lot of water. Sometimes, she'd do it on her own, too. It was kind of scary, still, even if it wasn't a case of Dengue because she could be dehydrated from vomiting and a possibility of an LBM, too, will occur.
Right now, because of her UTI, she also has anemia which is needed to be treated. I am not losing my hope and faith in God. HE is very good to us despite of this kind of ordeal. My daughter will surely be fine, Freymind.:)Thank you for the encouraging. :)

Though UTI is more common in women that in men, yet it is unexpected in a female child of 3 years. But you have to take it easily. One thing which I like to mention here is that UTI generally recurs, especially in case of women. So be careful about it. If any time in the future there is high fever,do not waste any time, immediately have a urine culture, & if the culture is positive, go for a sensitivity test & visit a doctor for his advice.

@DoctorDidi,are you realy a doctor?:)
You were right, her UTI is recurrent. This is the second time she was diagnosed of such infection....The doctor told me that it could be anatomical problem, whatever that means... I guess, there is something not quite right with her system(?). We don't take any risk with her because she is so susceptible to the slightest infection that evry time she got fever , we'd go to see a doctor immediately...
Thanks, Doc.:)

@Deepasuresh, if we adults who can very well maintain a good hygiene and understood the risk of getting UTI still get infected, how much more the clueless kids? I was wrong thinking that it couldn't happened to the kids, too.
But kids are more prone to this because they use diapers, they will impede urination in order to play without interruption and dirt could go inside by the slightest mistake of cleaning that sensitive part; it should be from up downward is the proper way and lots of water, too...
She was given an antibiotic, too to be taken for a week. Her check up, hopefully, the last, will be on saturday. I hope, too, that she has fully recovered by that time, then.
Thank you for sharing my sentiments.:)

It appears a bit strange to me, but on the other hand, now a days, anything is possible. You need to take more care of her, as advised by the treating Doctor.

Hello, dear. How are you. I'm glad to hear from you again. :)
I also thought it is impossible but the pedia knows better than I do and yes, today, nothing seems impossible.:(
I am taking extra care , as always. I have turned myself a control freak when it comes to her hygiene and activities lately until I made sure she's completely cured.... On Saturday will be the final check up. I hope and pray that there'll be no more traces of such bacteria so we can treat her anemia, too...
Thanks, dear. Always take care.:)

Hello Eureka,
So, if it isn't diapers, or dirty toilet(since you clean them), what was the analysis of the doctor? could it be that it has something to do with the water or something? having a pain near the reproductive organ is really HELL. most specially to a girl of three year old.
Thank God am a guy
I hope God would hear your prayers and have her full recovery.

Oh, Knight, you are indeed lucky i this aspect.:)
I am kind of OC, dear so a dirty toilet bowl or toilet is a big no, not even a strand of hair can be found in my rest room.LOL
We live in qc where water supply is abundant and free from those unwanted organisms(and so I thought) . Our water is even good enough for drinking. So water isn't the problem.
M doctor said that impeding urination could be the cause. Recently, my daughter became so engrossed playing dress up games in the computer and there were times she'd urinate in her undies. So I know that she's stopping herself to urinate so as not to leave her post. Then, she complained of pain every time she urinates...
Just one more check up on Saturday and we'll see if she's getting better or else she'll be confined at the hospital again...
Thanks, Knight.:)

A few years back, I also got surprised when it happened to my niece. I, too, thought that UTI doesn't happen to very young children. If it's not diapers, kindly check her diet. Eating too much chips can be a culprit. I heard that drinking too much tetra- packed juices can cause it too.
For extra precaution, don't allow her to sit on the floor when she 's wearing a skirt or just her undies, even if we think the floor is clean.
I really hope your daughter gets well soon. Take care.

Oh, thanks for the additional tip, dear. That, i forgot to ask my doctor. She likes to drink iced tea and tetrapacked juices, but she isn't much into eating chips and salty food, neither me and my husband.
Right now, I'm being too meticulous when it comes to her activities and evrything. I start to not to let her sit on the floor which she hates so much. I don't know why she likes to sit on it so much.... I am wary about everything about her.... Sigh...

That could be the common cause for babies using diapers, Misheli and the way adults are cleaning the area. It should be from up downward strokes. Oh, I just hope she won't be having that infection again. It must be real tough for you niece.
I was wrong thinking that way, too. I'm glad, I've known this and corrected as early as now... I can do things to avoid it next time.... i really hope there'll be no next time for this....

well, since she is not wearing diapers anymore, the diet she has must be the reason for it. Maybe she is eating too salty foods and do not drink plenty of water. UTI is a recurrent disease. It goes back when not taken care of. The solution should be to follow doctor's prescription on taking the antibiotics for it.You see, the bacteria that causes the UTI will grow back if the antibiotic isn't taken properly. if the doctor prescribed to take antibiotic 3 x a day for one week, make sure that you will let your daughter finish that medication for the given period even your daughter gets well before that. Also make sure to let her drink plenty of water, tell her also to urinate when she feels like urinating and not to impede it for it will cause UTI. Pure coconut water/juice also helps to cleanse the kidney. Proper hygiene also counts. I hope your kid will get well soon...

Hi there , Bokal. Magandang araw.:)
It is delightful to read thia much insights from a kababayan. It seems that you are well aware of the disease.:)
My daughter doesn't like eating salty food nor me and my husband. We hardly eating chips for that matter. Her pedia gave her Zinnat as antibiotic to be taken for a week, 2x a day. I'm glad that the treatment is working.
We prohibited her from using the pc because it is when she would impede her urination when she doesn't want to stop playing. And yup, a glass of buco juice helps her eliminate the bacteria, I guess. We still have another check up this Saturday.
Thank you for the well wishing, Bokal. I also do hope so....

hey, actually you can do my way,
choose good talc for your daughter, if your daughter already uses talc, replace with better one, maybe she has allergic
in some countries people can buy Cinolon cream (Fluisonolon Asetonida), it is good to prevent UTI..
My daughter had a similar problem like yours, but it is'nt already anymore

Hi, Sayariza. :)
I'm not familiar with such talc and i'm not sure if it is available here in my country, Philippines. Moreover, she also has allergic reactions to some chemicals including powders and talc....
But, on my next visit to the pedia, I'll mention this to him so he can advise me if it is ok for my daughter to use it.
Thank you for the help, dear. Have a wonderful day.:)

hi eureka..
That's really bad but thank God your daughter is okay..Well,the truth is as early as newly born can have urinary tract infection and that would be more difficult because they don't know how to complain and the only symptom there is fever and with the lab test the physician will able to rule out it's UTI (acquired inside mother's womb,if mother has or if the baby is past due & already urinated or defecated inside the mother's womb)..I have a niece who was admitted due to hospital due to UTI when she was 3 days old only and thank God she is a healthy 7 yr old now. It's a good thing that you're out of the ordeal now...

Hi Shenlynn.:)
I am a bit ignorant when it comes to this disease. Misinformed is the right word.:(
We're not over yet with our ordeal. She is still taking her antibiotics to kill all the bacteria. She will be having another check up on Saturday to see if everything is normal again.
But, because of her UTI she has now anemia....

the truth is children who are toddlers 1-3 years old ... are more susceptible to Urinary tract infection than adults .. most common reasons are Holding on to urination while at play, Personal Hygiene (Bathing less than 3 times per day) and children don't complain to parents with slight discomfort.
