I often wonder as I see my number of friends escalate, how many friends is too many on Facebook. There is a school of thought that a single person can't effectively manage over so many contacts in the real or online world. I know many seek to get a lot of friends for status purposes but does it matter in the end? Are you just setting yourself up for failure. Share your thoughts.

Well, I ever post a discussion about facebook.I make a title
"Facebook the place to make"
So I'm asking that question to you now.
If to keep connect old friends, so the answer was as much as your old friends.
But if you use for others, 5000 was the limit that given by facebook for each account.

Thanks for the reply. I was more asking the question about how many friends is it possible to keep up with more then how many does Facebook limit you too. Again thanks for your response.

I have multiple account in there, and the primary was for my real friends.
No one else.
The other account was for having fun with their games and apps, make money from FB, get leads or referral, etc.So for this account I let the FB limitation who will do for me.
Still not enough with the limitation, I make group or page in order to get more. The group and the page was the way for me to keep connect with all of them instantly by sending message or wall post.

I think the term "Friends" used on FB is relatively virtual and superficial, because besides the real friends you have there, plus family members, let's even include customers, coworkers, etc.
... the rest of them, who are they in reality? Can you consider them "Friends"? I can't, doesn't mean I wouldn't be interested in knowing them either, but maybe the term has good intention from the site to create a not so cold environment.

Great point. I think there will be some confusion as these two worlds continue to exist. Some individuals might have a hard to knowing where they fit into their Facebook "Friends" lives. It will also be interesting to watch the younger generations and how this social networking changes the way the communicate and form friendships. Thanks for the reply.
